Job Title: Powder Coater 3rd Shift (4-Day Week)

Job Description

This role is responsible for preparing, hanging, and applying powder coating to a wide variety of metal parts in a fast-paced production environment. You will use manual electrostatic spray equipment, follow defined processes, and perform quality checks to ensure durable, high-quality finishes on all products.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare metal parts for coating by cleaning, degreasing, sandblasting, and masking to ensure proper powder adhesion.
  • Operate manual electrostatic spray guns to apply powder coatings evenly and accurately according to specifications.
  • Hang and un-rack parts on the conveyor line, organizing batch production and coordinating color changes efficiently.
  • Monitor parts throughout the coating and curing process to maintain consistent coverage and finish quality.
  • Perform visual quality inspections before and after curing to identify and correct defects such as runs, sags, and thin spots.
  • Follow work instructions, production schedules, and job travelers to meet output and quality targets.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of spray guns, powder booths, ovens, and related equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized 5S work area and promptly remove powder build-up and debris.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of materials.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve coating issues and support continuous improvement in the powder coating process.

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in industrial powder coating or manufacturing preferred, BUT not required.
  • Ability to consistently lift up to 50 pounds and handle physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify coating defects and inconsistencies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to operate and adjust spray guns, booths, and ovens.
  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality to support a 3rd shift, 4-day work schedule.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Powder coating experience is a plus, including experience with manual electrostatic spray guns.
  • Experience in production, industrial environments, or machine shop settings is beneficial.
  • Experience with painting, maintenance repair, or related finishing processes is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with 5S or other lean manufacturing practices is helpful.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving production demands and process improvements.
  • Openness to entry-level candidates who demonstrate strong work ethic and willingness to be trained.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean machine shop environment that is partially climate controlled for improved comfort. This is a 3rd shift position operating on a 4-day workweek, with core hours listed as 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. You will work around powder coating equipment, including electrostatic spray guns, booths, conveyor lines, and curing ovens, in a production setting that emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and compliance with shop standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clinton, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
