The Overnight Engineer / Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, functionality, and overall condition of the hotel during overnight hours. This dual-role position combines general maintenance duties with security responsibilities to provide a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests, employees, and hotel property.

The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while responding effectively to maintenance issues, emergencies, and guest requests.

### Key Responsibilities

**1. Engineering & Maintenance**

* Perform routine inspections of the hotel's mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems.

* Respond promptly to overnight maintenance requests from guests and hotel staff.

* Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical fixtures, lighting, HVAC systems, doors, locks, and general hotel equipment.

* Monitor critical building systems and report any irregularities or malfunctions.

* Conduct preventive maintenance tasks according to hotel standards and established schedules.

* Ensure all maintenance areas, equipment rooms, and workspaces remain clean, safe, and organized.

* Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and unresolved issues in the engineering logbook.

* Communicate major maintenance concerns to the Chief Engineer or management.

**2. Security & Safety**

* Conduct regular interior and exterior security patrols of the hotel property.

* Monitor entrances, exits, parking areas, stairwells, hallways, and other designated areas.

* Identify and report suspicious activities, unauthorized individuals, and potential safety hazards.

* Monitor security cameras and alarm systems, when applicable.

* Respond professionally to noise complaints, disturbances, and security-related incidents.

* Ensure emergency exits, fire doors, and evacuation routes remain accessible and unobstructed.

* Assist with emergency response procedures, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, evacuations, and other incidents.

* Complete detailed security incident reports and maintain accurate records of overnight activities.

* Coordinate with emergency services or law enforcement when necessary, following hotel policies.

**3. Guest Service & Support**

* Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests involving maintenance, safety, or security concerns.

* Provide assistance to the Front Desk team during overnight operations as needed.

* Handle guest complaints professionally and escalate unresolved situations to management.

* Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate excellent customer service at all times.

* Respect guest privacy and confidentiality.

**4. Overnight Operations & Reporting**

* Complete scheduled overnight property inspections and safety checks.

* Monitor and secure restricted areas, storage rooms, and service entrances.

* Maintain accurate daily maintenance and security logs.

* Report unusual incidents, equipment failures, property damage, or safety concerns.

* Communicate pending maintenance requests and incidents to the incoming morning team.

* Follow all hotel policies, safety procedures, and operational standards.

### Performance Expectations

The Overnight Engineer / Security Officer is expected to maintain a secure hotel environment, respond efficiently to maintenance and security concerns, complete assigned inspections and preventive maintenance tasks, and ensure accurate communication between overnight and daytime operations.

**Primary Objective:** To protect hotel guests, employees, and assets while maintaining the property's operational functionality and safety throughout the overnight shift.

Requirements:

### Qualifications & Requirements

* Previous experience in hotel maintenance, building engineering, security, or a similar position preferred.

* Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance.

* Familiarity with hotel safety and emergency procedures.

* Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot equipment, and perform minor repairs independently.

* Strong observation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and professionally.

* Basic computer skills for completing reports and maintenance logs.

* Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.

* High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

* Relevant maintenance or security certifications are a plus.

* Ability to maintain guest and employee confidentiality.

### Physical Requirements

* Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

* Ability to climb stairs, bend, kneel, and reach as required.

* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

* Ability to perform indoor and outdoor property inspections under varying weather conditions.

* Ability to respond promptly to emergencies throughout the hotel property.
