Structural Steel Layout Fitter-Welder

Picture your first morning with us in La Crosse: you pull the day’s structural blueprints, mark out precise measurements, and start laying out beams, joists, and connection plates. With confident fit-up, you position, tack, and ready each assembly for final weldsworking independently and with accuracy from the start.

• Review and interpret structural blueprints and specifications.
• Lay out, fit, and assemble structural components with tight tolerances.
• Measure, position, and tack parts, preparing them for final welding.
• Operate a MIG Welder to support production needs.
• Work with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and safety.

• Pass a 3/8" Flat Weld Test
• Pass a Vertical Tack Test
• Pass a Single-Bead Vertical Weld Test
• Read and understand structural blueprints
• Accurately read a tape measure
• Understand and work with decimals and measurements
• Have hands-on experience fitting structural steel

You’ll fit and assemble a range of structural parts, including:

• Structural beams
• Joists
• Webbing
• Connection plates
• Stiffeners
• Supporting brackets
• Other structural steel components

You’re an experienced structural steel fitter who can translate blueprints into precise assemblies, confidently lay out and prepare components for welding, and keep projects moving without constant oversight.

This is not an entry-level position. Prior structural steel fitting experience is required, and you should be prepared to demonstrate your skills during weld and fitting evaluations.
