Outside Sales Representative
A growing professional security services company is hiring a motivated Outside Sales Representative to develop new business across the Tampa Bay or Houston market. This is a true field-sales role built around in-person prospecting, local relationships, trade shows, site visits, networking, and direct outreach.
The best fit has 1-2+ years of outside B2B sales experience and is currently succeeding in a field-based role. Industry background is flexible; what matters is a strong local network or book of business, a record of creating opportunities face to face, and the patience and follow-through to manage a 3-9 month sales cycle.
Location: Tampa, FL or Houston, TX
Compensation: $60,000-$70,000 base salary plus commission
Territory: Tampa Bay or Houston
Schedule: Field-based
Role Type: Direct Placement
Position Overview
This role is for a hands-on new-business developer who wants to be out in the market rather than spending the day behind a desk sending emails and making calls. You will build visibility in the territory, start conversations, identify customer needs, and turn local relationships into long-term business.
The industry you come from is less important than how you sell. Strong candidates may come from security, facilities services, construction services, industrial products, professional services, uniforms, payroll, staffing, commercial equipment, property services, or another B2B field-sales environment.
You will be selling integrated security solutions that may include professional security officers, armed and unarmed coverage, patrol services, surveillance technology, remote monitoring, alarm response, site assessments, and security consulting. The sales process can take 3-9 months, so success requires consistent in-person follow-up, relationship development, and disciplined pipeline management.
Compensation and Commission
This role offers a base salary plus commission. Commission is paid on account profit:
- Year 1: 8% profit commission on the account
- Year 2: 4% profit commission on the account
- After Year 2, accounts may transition to Account Management unless there has been significant growth or expansion
This structure rewards new business development, account growth, and continued customer engagement.
Responsibilities
- Build new business across the assigned Tampa Bay or Houston territory
- Spend the majority of the workweek in the field meeting prospects and customers face to face
- Create opportunities through door knocking, business drop-ins, local networking, referrals, trade shows, conferences, association events, and direct outreach
- Use an existing book of business or local professional network to open doors and develop qualified opportunities
- Meet with decision-makers in person to understand their operations, risks, service gaps, and business priorities
- Conduct site walks and discovery conversations, then coordinate practical security solutions
- Build relationships with business owners, property managers, facilities leaders, operations leaders, security directors, logistics managers, construction leaders, and other local decision-makers
- Maintain momentum through a 3-9 month sales cycle with organized follow-up and multiple stakeholder touchpoints
- Prepare and present solutions aligned with the customer's site, budget, risk profile, and service expectations
- Negotiate pricing, service terms, contracts, and implementation details
- Maintain accurate pipeline, activity, notes, and next steps in the CRM
- Partner with internal operations teams to support smooth client onboarding and account launches
Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of successful outside B2B sales, territory sales, field sales, or new business development experience
- Demonstrated ability to self-generate pipeline and win business through in-person prospecting and relationship building
- Comfort spending most of the week in the field rather than relying primarily on email, phone, or inbound leads
- Willingness and discipline to manage a 3-9 month sales cycle
- Strong prospecting, discovery, presentation, follow-up, and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage a local territory and build relationships with multiple decision-makers
- CRM discipline and accurate sales activity tracking
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally throughout the assigned market
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently employed and performing successfully in an outside sales role
- Bachelor's degree
- An established local book of business, professional network, or transferable customer relationships
- Documented examples of self-generated pipeline, new-logo wins, and long-cycle deals
- Experience attending trade shows, association events, networking functions, and customer site visits
- Experience selling recurring services or other solutions that require consultative, multi-touch follow-up
Who This Role Fits
This role fits a motivated, visible seller who is energized by meeting people, opening doors, attending events, and building trust over time. Security experience is not required.
