ABOUT THE POSITION
At Signal Cable Inc., we are looking for reliable and motivated Fiber Technicians to join our field operations throughout Washington State.
As a Fiber Technician with our company, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic connections in residential and commercial environments. Our technicians work directly with fiber infrastructure, completing new service installations, resolving connectivity problems, and ensuring that every assignment meets our quality and safety standards.
We are looking for individuals who are comfortable performing hands-on technical work, managing daily assignments, and communicating effectively with supervisors and customers.
This is a full-time W-2 field position with production-based compensation.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your daily assignments will involve installing and routing fiber optic cables, preparing connections, performing fiber terminations and splicing when required, and testing completed installations to verify proper network performance.
You will be responsible for identifying and resolving connectivity issues, damaged cables, faulty connections, signal loss, and other service-related problems. Depending on the project, you may complete new residential installations, service calls, repairs, maintenance assignments, and other fiber network activities.
Our technicians use specialized fiber tools, testing equipment, ladders, and standard hand tools to complete their work. You will be expected to handle this equipment properly, maintain it in good working condition, and follow the installation procedures established for each project.
Accurate documentation is an important part of the position. You will need to complete work orders, record production information, document materials used, and report any technical problems, delays, or unexpected conditions encountered in the field.
We also expect our technicians to protect customer property, existing utilities, and surrounding infrastructure while performing installations or repairs.
All work must be completed in accordance with Signal Cable procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable project safety standards.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
We prefer candidates with previous experience in fiber optic installation, FTTH operations, telecommunications, broadband services, or similar technical field work.
You should have a practical understanding of fiber optic connections, installation methods, basic splicing procedures, and network troubleshooting.
Experience using fiber testing equipment, hand tools, ladders, and mobile applications for managing field assignments is highly valuable.
We are looking for technicians who can identify technical problems, determine appropriate solutions, and complete their work efficiently without requiring constant supervision.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work both independently and with a field team are important for this position.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
FIELD OPERATIONS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
As part of our Washington field team, you will travel between assigned job locations depending on project requirements and available workload.
Technicians must have reliable transportation suitable for field operations, preferably a truck, van, or SUV capable of carrying ladders, tools, and necessary equipment.
The position involves outdoor work in different weather conditions and may require climbing ladders, lifting equipment, bending, kneeling, accessing restricted spaces, and performing other physically demanding activities.
You will be expected to maintain the tools and equipment required for your assignments and represent Signal Cable professionally when interacting with customers, supervisors, and other field personnel.
All candidates must meet applicable background-screening and drug-testing requirements.
OBSERVATION PERIOD
Before beginning independent field assignments, new technicians may participate in an initial observation period.
During this period, you will accompany an experienced technician in the field to become familiar with our daily operations, installation procedures, safety expectations, equipment, and project requirements.
The observation period allows candidates to understand how our field operations are organized and what is expected before receiving independent assignments.
Depending on previous experience and technical qualifications, candidates may also be required to complete an assessment before being approved for independent field work.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time W-2 position with Signal Cable Inc.
Our regular field schedule is generally Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Additional hours or Saturday assignments may be available depending on project requirements and workload.
Technicians must be able to communicate regularly with their assigned supervisors, follow operational instructions, and complete assigned jobs according to established quality and productivity expectations.
