Job Details
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Same Day Surgery / PACU
Location: Windsor, Vermont
EMR: Cerner
Patient Ratio: 8-bay unit with up to 17 patients per day
Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs
Patient Population: Adult and geriatric (ages 16+)
Job Responsibilities
- Manage admission and discharge of surgical and procedure patients.
- Perform nursing admission assessments and provide Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia care.
- Demonstrate strong assessment, IV, and patient education skills.
- Assist with OR duties as needed, including preparing the OR for surgery.
- Communicate effectively with nursing and physician colleagues.
- Manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining excellent time management and customer service.
- Provide care primarily in PACU, with occasional assistance in the OR.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Same Day Surgery experience – Required
- Experience working in a rural OR or outpatient facility – Required
- Admission and discharge experience – Required
- Phase I and Phase II/PACU experience – Required
- IV start experience – Required
- Ability to prepare the OR for surgery, not just the patient – Required
- Cerner EMR experience – Required
- Willingness to take call – Mandatory
- Travel experience – Highly preferred
- Must have a personal vehicle; public transportation is unavailable in the area.
- Must be willing to obtain a Vermont nursing license before the start date. Compact license holders are accepted.
Certifications and Licensing
- BLS (AHA) – Required
- ACLS (AHA) – Required
- Vermont RN license or eligible compact license
- Candidates without a Vermont license must be willing to obtain one before starting.
Schedule and Assignment Requirements
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation.
- Call requirement: $4/hour.
- Callback, holiday, and overtime multipliers: 1.25%.
- Travelers must be available to work two holiday blocks, if scheduled or needed:
- Thanksgiving Day, the following Friday, and the weekend after.
- Christmas Eve through Christmas Day and the following weekend.
- New Year's Eve through New Year's Day and the following weekend.
- No more than 5 days of requested time off (RTO) will be accepted.
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at submission. Requests made after submission or offer will not be approved and may result in the offer being rescinded.
- Local travelers residing within 50 miles are not eligible.
Important: Candidates must have Same Day Surgery experience and be willing to take call. Detailed work history and skills checklists are expected.
