Job Description

This entry-level role offers the opportunity to develop machining skills while working part time in a regulated manufacturing environment in Tupelo, Mississippi. Under close supervision, you assist with and perform basic set-up and fabrication of simple, routine machined parts using light-duty machine tools and equipment. The schedule is flexible to support students currently enrolled in technical or trade school programs related to machining.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and perform basic set-up and fabrication of simple, routine machined metal parts under close supervision.
• Operate basic shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes, mills, saws, shears, and other light-duty machine tools after detailed instruction.
• Perform deburring of metal parts to remove sharp edges and ensure part quality.
• Remove and properly discard metal chips from machines to maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Maintain oil and coolant levels in machines to support proper equipment operation.
• Perform kitting of production tools, fixtures, cutters, and pre-cut raw materials to support efficient workflow.
• Prepare and saw-cut raw materials according to production requirements.
• Clean machines and the surrounding work area to uphold housekeeping and safety standards.
• Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and operational procedures when performing work in a military and government-regulated manufacturing facility.
• Work in a safe manner at all times, adhering to established operating procedures and safety practices.
• Maintain the flow of work within the unit by organizing tasks and communicating effectively with team members.
• Use basic computer skills to support production activities and documentation as needed.
• Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers, demonstrating good interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Work both independently and as part of a team, taking direction and asking questions when needed.
• Demonstrate flexibility to work extended or adjusted hours as required around your school schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support production and shop operations.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current enrollment in a technical or trade school program in a field related to machining.
• Ability to perform basic routine set-up and fabrication of machined parts under supervision.
• Basic knowledge of shop equipment and machine tools, including drill presses, lathes, mills, saws, and shears.
• Ability to use sound judgment and follow safe practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Skills to help maintain the flow of work within the unit.
• Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Good written communication skills to interface with employees and supervisors.
• Basic computer skills for simple data entry and documentation.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Customer-focused mindset after receiving detailed instruction.
• Flexibility to work part-time hours, including extended hours as required, around a school schedule.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing environment within a military and government-regulated facility, where safety, compliance, and attention to detail are essential. You work around machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, mills, saws, and shears, handling metal parts, raw materials, and production tooling. The position is part-time, with hours scheduled flexibly to accommodate your technical or trade school commitments, and may occasionally require extended hours. The shop environment includes typical industrial conditions such as machinery noise, metal chips, oils, and coolants, and requires adherence to established operating procedures, safety standards, and appropriate industrial work attire.

This is a Contract position based out of Shannon, MS.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
