Job Description

The Food Services Worker supports daily kitchen and cafeteria operations by preparing food, serving customers, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. This role involves working in a fast-paced college campus setting, collaborating with team members to ensure high-quality food service and a positive experience for students, faculty, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables.
• Weigh and measure designated ingredients to support accurate food production.
• Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from workstations, stoves, and refrigerators in accordance with safety standards.
• Store food in designated areas following proper wrapping, dating, food safety, and rotation procedures.

Essential Skills

• Ability to lift 20 or more pounds safely and repeatedly during the shift.
• Ability to stand on your feet for the entire shift in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate in English to interact with customers and team members.
• Customer service skills to provide friendly and efficient service.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in foodservice, food preparation, or line cook roles is beneficial.
• Background in cleaning or housekeeping tasks is an advantage.
• Previous customer service experience in hospitality or similar environments is helpful.
• Experience working in a cafeteria, kitchen, or campus setting is a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a kitchen and cafeteria setting on a busy college campus, with many students and faculty present throughout the day. The team includes more than 200 employees, with most part-time staff working fewer than 15 hours per week and a core group of approximately 40 full-time staff. The environment is fast-paced and collaborative, and employees are expected to help one another when some areas are busier than others. Dress code requires slip-resistant shoes, long pants, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt that is not overly loose. The organization offers both full-time and part-time schedules with very flexible shift times, generally within early morning through evening hours, allowing adaptation to each candidates availability.

This is a Contract position based out of La Crosse, WI.

The pay range for this position is $17.55 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
