Location: Providence, RI | $53.57 per hour
A-Line Staffing is seeking an experienced ASL Medical Interpreter to support patients and healthcare providers at an outpatient clinic in Providence, Rhode Island.
Schedule: Starting PRN/as needed - 3 days per week, 1 hour per day
*7-month contract assignment*
Overview
Help Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients communicate with their healthcare team by accurately interpreting between American Sign Language and English. You will support conversations during appointments, examinations, treatment discussions, and patient education.
Responsibilities
- Interpret conversations between patients, providers, caregivers, and clinical staff.
- Accurately communicate symptoms, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
- Interpret patient forms and written healthcare materials into ASL as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Remain professional, impartial, and sensitive to patients’ cultural and communication needs.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to support an accessible patient experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Communications, Healthcare, or a related field.
- Fluency in American Sign Language and English.
- At least 2 years of professional ASL interpreting experience.
- Completion of an Interpreter Training Program or Medical Interpreter Training Program from an accredited institution.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures.
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive medical discussions professionally.
- Spanish proficiency is a plus.
