The Opportunity

Divine Doors, Windows and Trim, Inc. is seeking a knowledgeable, relationship-driven Contractor Sales Specialist to become a trusted resource for our contractor, builder, and commercial carpentry partners.

In this hands-on role, you will combine building-products knowledge, plan-reading ability, practical construction judgment, and strong communication skills to guide projects from quote through delivery and completion. You will help customers make informed decisions, identify potential issues before they create costly delays, and coordinate closely with internal teams, vendors, and trade partners.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys owning details, building long-term contractor relationships, solving practical project challenges, and contributing wherever needed in a collaborative small-business environment.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Drive contractor and commercial carpentry sales growth by providing expert product recommendations, reading blueprints, and generating accurate project quotes.
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with residential builders, contractors, carpenters, and trade partners through responsiveness, technical credibility, and consistent follow-through.
  • Review plans, specifications, measurements, and project details to identify questions or potential conflicts early; communicate practical options before issues affect cost, schedule, or installation.
  • Develop professional sales orders, purchase orders, and illustration renditions via PowerPoint or AI to create clear project expectations for clients.
  • Translate technical product and construction details into clear, practical guidance for customers, vendors, and internal teammates.
  • Conduct site visits to validate project specifications, verify site measurements, support customers, and make necessary sales-order adjustments.
  • Deliver proactive, high-touch customer service while using sound judgment and maintaining appropriate boundaries around decisions that remain with the contractor, builder, or design team.
  • Manage procurement activities, track project inventory, and negotiate favorable supply terms to protect company target margins.
  • Coordinate shipping, receiving, and physical inventory activities to support on-time material delivery and successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with internal warehouse, buying, and management teams to resolve supplier discrepancies and maintain seamless operations.
  • Contribute wherever needed in a lean, hands-on environment, including occasional support with deliveries, material handling, and other customer or operational needs.
  • Travel locally to customer and job sites throughout Livingston County and surrounding markets, including Ann Arbor, Fenton, Lansing, and the greater Detroit area.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in contractor sales, building materials, millwork, doors, windows, trim, carpentry, construction, estimating, project coordination, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, legal contracts, and complex project specifications.
  • Strong ability to build credibility with contractors and trade customers through product knowledge, responsiveness, honesty, and follow-through.
  • Proven practical problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify potential measurement, ordering, scope, specification, or job-site issues before they become larger problems.
  • Experience preparing accurate quotes, managing sales orders, and coordinating project details from initial customer conversation through delivery or completion.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), QuickBooks, central network drives, and quoting software.
  • Solid mathematical aptitude with proven experience calculating margins, discounts, percentages, and construction measurements using tape measures.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and perform occasional site visits across varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a proven record of maintaining high integrity and professional standards.
  • Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and contribute across functions in a small-team environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with residential builders, contractors, commercial carpentry teams, or trade partners.
  • Experience working within operational, warehouse, purchasing, or inventory-control functions in the building-products sector.
  • Previous experience managing vendor negotiations, contract reviews, supplier discrepancy resolution, or product-order issues.
  • Builder License is a plus.
  • Comfortable learning and adopting improved processes, tools, and technology while applying sound practical judgment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 401(k) retirement savings program with employer matching and profit sharing.
  • Competitive bi-weekly pay cycle with annual bonus potential.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) option to manage wellness expenses.
  • Generous paid time off covering holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Remote and hybrid flexibility where applicable to support work-life balance.
  • Dedicated tech package including a company-provided smartphone or tablet.
  • Comprehensive training and certification programs including safety, OSHA, lift, and manufacturer-specific courses.
  • Structured mentor training program to support continuous career growth.
  • Safety equipment provided alongside engaging company events throughout the year.
