Job Description

Technique is looking for a Quality Inspector to join our team at our Concord, North Carolina facility, home to Technique’s NASCAR operations. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector makes sure the chassis, welded tubular structures, and race-ready assemblies we build meet NASCAR drawings and specifications before they leave our building. This hands-on, floor-based role covers incoming, in-process, and final inspection, including dimensional checks, weld inspection, laser scanning, and keeping the serialized traceability records that every part we ship requires.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of quality inspection experience in a fabrication, welding, or precision manufacturing environment, and motorsports experience is a strong plus. They read blueprints and GD&T with confidence, are comfortable with both hand gages and portable metrology like laser scanners and laser trackers, and know what a good weld looks like. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to keep up with race-season deadlines without cutting corners are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Incoming Inspection – Inspect purchased material, tubing, sheet stock, and outsourced components, and verify material certifications, heat lots, and supplier documentation before release to production.
  • In-Process Inspection – Perform inspections at defined points during fabrication, welding, and assembly according to Control Plans and inspection instructions.
  • Final Inspection – Complete final dimensional and visual inspection of chassis, sub-assemblies, and components to confirm they conform to NASCAR drawings and specifications before shipment.
  • First Article Inspection – Perform first article inspections on new and revised parts and assemblies, and prepare the dimensional reports.
  • Dimensional Verification – Measure parts and assemblies using calipers, micrometers, height gages, pin gages, protractors, and other precision measuring tools.
  • Laser Scanning & Metrology – Operate laser scanners, laser trackers, and/or CMM equipment, and use Polyworks to scan, align, and evaluate chassis and components against CAD models.
  • Weld Inspection – Visually inspect welds on tubular structures and fabricated parts against AWS and customer requirements; perform or support dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection as directed.
  • Fixture & Jig Checks – Verify chassis jigs, holding fixtures, and inspection fixtures for accuracy and condition, and report wear or damage to the Quality Manager.
  • Assembly Verification – Verify torque values, hardware installation, error-proofing, and functional checks on race-ready assemblies.
  • Serialization & Traceability – Record serial numbers, material certs, weld records, and inspection results accurately so every chassis and critical component has full traceability.
  • Nonconforming Material – Identify, tag, segregate, and document nonconforming material, and support MRB activities with inspection data.
  • Inspection Records – Complete inspection reports, checklists, and quality records accurately and on time, following document control procedures.
  • Calibration Support – Use only calibrated equipment, check gage calibration status before use, and support the calibration recall program.
  • Root Cause Support – Provide data, measurements, and observations to support root cause and corrective action (8D, 5 Why) investigations.
  • Production Collaboration – Work closely with fabricators, welders, and assemblers to communicate quality issues quickly and help keep parts moving on schedule.
  • Customer Inspections – Support customer source inspections and certification activities with NASCAR and race team representatives as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement – Suggest improvements to inspection methods, fixtures, and processes that improve quality and efficiency.
  • Workplace Safety & 5S – Keep the inspection area and equipment clean, organized, and safe, and follow all safety and PPE requirements.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or associate degree in quality, manufacturing, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of quality inspection experience in a fabrication, welding, or precision manufacturing environment
  • Motorsports, aerospace, or other high-precision, low-volume manufacturing experience a strong plus
  • Strong blueprint reading skills and working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, and bore and pin gages
  • Experience with laser scanning, laser trackers, CMM, and/or Polyworks preferred; willingness to be trained required
  • Working knowledge of weld inspection; CWI or CAWI certification a plus
  • Familiarity with dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection preferred
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems, nonconforming material control, and calibration requirements
  • ASQ CQI (Certified Quality Inspector) certification a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate, thorough documentation habits
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with production teams
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, race-schedule-driven environment
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends during peak race-season demand
  • Active position requiring continuous production floor presence; must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise; appropriate PPE required
  • Occasional local travel to customers or race teams in the Charlotte/Concord/Mooresville area may be required
