Job Overview

The Warehouse Training Manager is responsible for leading and executing practical, hands-on training initiatives that support safe, efficient, and consistent warehouse operations.

This is a highly hands-on position requiring a strong presence on the warehouse floor. The ideal candidate will work directly with warehouse associates, supervisors, and operational leadership to ensure employees are properly trained, confident in their responsibilities, and consistently performing to established operational and safety standards.

Rather than focusing primarily on classroom instruction or online training development, this role emphasizes on-the-job training, practical demonstrations, real-time coaching, employee competency assessments, and continuous improvement.

The Warehouse Training Manager will also play a key role in reinforcing OSHA requirements, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) practices, and company safety standards through employee training and daily operational engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Warehouse Training & Employee Development

  • Lead hands-on training for new hires and existing warehouse employees, ensuring they understand their job responsibilities, operational procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Conduct on-the-job training across key warehouse functions, including receiving, picking, packing, shipping, inventory management, and material handling.
  • Demonstrate proper warehouse procedures, equipment operation, and safe work practices directly on the warehouse floor.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and refresher training to improve employee productivity, accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
  • Partner with warehouse supervisors and department leaders to identify skill gaps and implement targeted training solutions.
  • Evaluate employee readiness and competency through direct observation, practical demonstrations, and hands-on skills assessments.
  • Support cross-training initiatives to improve workforce flexibility and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure employees are adequately trained before independently performing assigned tasks.

Operational Excellence, OSHA Compliance & EHS

  • Partner with warehouse leadership to promote a strong safety culture and reinforce compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, EHS policies, and company safety procedures.
  • Conduct hands-on safety training covering proper material handling, equipment operation, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe work practices.
  • Support forklift and powered industrial truck (PIT) training, evaluations, and operator certification processes in accordance with applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct regular observations on the warehouse floor to identify unsafe behaviors, training gaps, and opportunities for immediate coaching and corrective training.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership and EHS personnel to reinforce safety protocols, address training deficiencies, and support corrective actions following incidents or near misses.
  • Assist with safety inspections, audits, and compliance initiatives by ensuring employees receive required training and appropriate documentation is maintained.
  • Reinforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and established safety expectations across warehouse departments.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational errors, prevent workplace incidents, and improve overall warehouse performance through effective training.
  • Support the implementation of new equipment, processes, and operational changes by providing practical training and direct employee coaching.

Training Coordination & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate new hire onboarding and ensure employees receive appropriate operational and safety training.
  • Develop, maintain, and update practical training materials, SOPs, skills checklists, and work instructions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate training records, equipment certification documentation, and employee competency assessments.
  • Monitor training completion and effectiveness, identifying opportunities to improve employee performance and operational consistency.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to establish consistent training expectations across departments and shifts.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors and management regarding employee progress, training needs, and areas requiring additional support.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, employee development, quality, and workplace safety.
  • Serve as a resource for warehouse supervisors and team leads in reinforcing training standards and developing employee capabilities.
