Job Description

Job Description
Power Systems Integration Engineer

Location: Austin, TX

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Power Systems Integration Engineer to support the engineering, integration, and technical coordination of complex electrical power and control systems. This position focuses on bringing together electrical distribution equipment, automation technologies, protective devices, and communication systems to support reliable operation across commercial, industrial, and mission-critical infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate combines a strong electrical engineering background with hands-on experience integrating power equipment and control technologies. Successful candidates will understand how switchgear, generators, transformers, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and protective relays interact within larger electrical systems. This opportunity is particularly well suited for engineers with experience in power systems design, controls integration, equipment communications, and the technical coordination required to deliver integrated electrical solutions.

Why Join Our Client?

Our client is an established electrical engineering and construction organization supporting sophisticated electrical infrastructure projects across multiple markets. Its engineering teams work alongside construction professionals, equipment manufacturers, and technical specialists to develop coordinated electrical solutions that address demanding operational and performance requirements. The organization emphasizes technical expertise, engineering quality, and collaboration throughout project development and execution.

This opportunity provides exposure to a broad range of electrical power technologies and the challenge of integrating multiple systems into reliable, functional infrastructure. Engineers can apply their expertise in electrical design, automation, and protection systems while expanding their involvement in technically complex projects. The position also offers competitive compensation, performance-based bonus opportunities, employee ownership participation, comprehensive benefits, and relocation assistance for qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate engineering solutions for the integration of electrical power distribution equipment, control systems, and associated communication technologies.
  • Evaluate system requirements and equipment interfaces involving switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS equipment, battery energy storage systems, and protective devices.
  • Develop, review, and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, control schematics, equipment specifications, and technical integration documentation.
  • Support the development and evaluation of control strategies, equipment sequences of operation, and communication requirements for integrated electrical systems.
  • Work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal automation controllers (RTACs), protective relays, and related automation technologies as applicable to project requirements.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, engineering teams, construction personnel, and technical stakeholders to resolve integration challenges and maintain compatibility between systems.
  • Evaluate equipment communication protocols, system interfaces, and protection requirements to support coordinated operation of electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering recommendations, and integration deliverables while supporting system verification and resolution of technical issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Eight or more years of relevant professional experience in electrical power systems design or engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating electrical power equipment with control, automation, or protection systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical control systems, equipment sequences of operation, and the interfaces between electrical and automation technologies.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, RTACs, protective relays, or comparable industrial control and power automation platforms.
  • Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, control schematics, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills, including experience coordinating engineering requirements across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with power systems equipment or automation technologies from manufacturers such as Schneider Electric, Eaton, Siemens, or Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL).
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 communication standards and their application to electrical power systems.
  • Experience developing or reviewing protective relay configurations, equipment control logic, or automation sequences.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems, UPS equipment, and generator integration within complex electrical distribution networks.
  • Experience with power system modeling, electrical analysis software, or control system configuration tools.
  • Background supporting data centers, industrial power infrastructure, or other facilities requiring highly reliable electrical systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
