Mechanical Engineer

This on-site Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing vertical twin tube baggers and related capital equipment using SolidWorks and strong machine design principles. You will create fresh, from-scratch designs for machined and fabricated components, taking concepts from initial idea through to launch while closely collaborating with other engineers and shop floor machinists. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing product line in a modern, clean facility and to play a key role in equipment and packaging machinery design.

• Design vertical twin tube baggers and related capital equipment using SolidWorks and sound mechanical engineering principles.
• Develop complete machine designs from scratch, taking concepts from initial idea through detailed design, validation, and launch.
• Create and refine designs for machined and fabricated parts, including shafts, bearings and housings, drive components, mounting plates, precision spacers, structural frame weldments, sheet metal parts, channels, covers, and similar components.
• Apply machine design best practices to ensure robust, reliable, and maintainable equipment for packaging and other capital equipment applications.
• Design with a strong focus on manufacturability, ensuring that parts and assemblies are practical and efficient to produce on the shop floor.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers in an office environment to review concepts, resolve design challenges, and improve existing designs.
• Work directly with machinists and other shop floor personnel to understand how the machines operate and to incorporate their feedback into design improvements.
• Participate in the full lifecycle of equipment design, from conceptual design and layout through detailed drawings, documentation, and support for manufacturing and assembly.
• Use SolidWorks PDM and related tools to manage design data, revisions, and documentation in a structured, turnkey environment.
• Contribute to the design of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems that may include hydraulic systems, conveyors, gearmotors, electric actuators, and associated fabrication work.
• Support the introduction of new product lines by conceptualizing and executing innovative equipment designs that align with the companys growth objectives.
• When applicable, lead or coordinate design projects, organizing tasks, timelines, and communication with stakeholders to keep projects on track.

• 5+ years of experience utilizing SolidWorks for mechanical and machine design, or a minimum of 3 years of highly proficient SolidWorks and mechanical design experience for exceptional candidates.
• Proven machine design experience, with a strong track record of designing complex mechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience in equipment design, preferably in packaging machinery or other capital equipment.
• Strong design knowledge of machined and fabricated parts, including shafts, bearings and housings, drive components, mounting plates, precision spacers, structural frame weldments, sheet metal parts, channels, and covers.
• Demonstrated ability to conceptualize designs and carry them from initial concept through to final, manufacturable solutions.
• Proficiency in designing from scratch and building fresh designs based on understanding how the machine operates.
• Experience designing for manufacturing, with a clear understanding of manufacturing processes and constraints.
• Solid mechanical engineering and mechanical design skills, including 3D modeling and detailed drafting in SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar product data management tools in a turnkey design environment.

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred but not required when balanced by strong, relevant experience.
• Experience with conceptual design and taking products from concept to launch in a turnkey environment.
• Background in capital equipment design, particularly in packaging or related industries.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, weldments, sheet metal design, conveyors, gearmotors, electric actuators, and electro-mechanical systems.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods used for machined and fabricated components.
• Experience leading or coordinating design projects is a significant plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing teams and to communicate technical concepts clearly.

This role is fully on-site in a brand-new, clean facility that was opened in 2023. You will work primarily in an office setting alongside other engineers, with regular visits to the shop floor to collaborate with machinists and see equipment in operation. The environment supports close interaction between design and manufacturing, enabling quick feedback and continuous improvement. The company is growing, launching a new product line, and has a track record of rapid expansion and innovation, as reflected by multiple recognitions among the fastest growing private companies. The setting is professional, modern, and well-equipped to support advanced mechanical and capital equipment design work.

This is a Contract position based out of Grafton, WI.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
