SOIL SCIENTIST

JDSConsultingisseekingaqualifiedSoilScientisttojoinourSpecialtyDesignDepartment.Thisrolesupportslanddevelopment,siteassessments,andcivilengineeringprojectsthroughsoilanalysis,fieldinvestigations,septicsystemdesign,andonsitewastewaterevaluations.

Theidealcandidatehashands-onexperiencewithsoiltesting,septiclayouts,septicinspections,andenvironmentalregulations.Thispositionrequiresstrongtechnicalskills,attentiontodetail,andtheabilitytocollaboratewithengineers,designers,clients,andregulatoryagencies.

• Conductsiteinvestigations,soilsampling,andsoilanalysistoevaluatesoilproperties,compaction,andpermeability.

• Performfieldtesting,includingsoilborings,percolation(perc)tests,andstormwaterinfiltrationassessments.

• Design,evaluate,andlayoutonsitewastewaterandsepticsystems,includingsepticservicelinesanddrainfields.

• Conductsepticinspectionsandsiteevaluationstoassesssystemfunctionalityandregulatorycompliance.

• Collaboratewithengineersanddesignteamstoevaluategroundconditions,foundationrequirements,erosion,andslopestability.

• Interpretstate,federal,andlocalenvironmentalregulationsandland-usepolicies.

• Preparetechnicalreports,siteassessments,andpermitapplicationpackages.

• Reviewcivilsiteplans,constructiondrawings,gradingplans,anderosioncontrolspecifications.

• Participateinfieldsurveys,sitefeasibilitystudies,andconstructionsitemonitoringthroughouttheRaleigh-to-coastregion.

• CoordinatewiththeFieldandEngineeringDepartmentstoreviewdatacollection,reporting,andprojectdeliverables.

• Providetechnicalsupportforspecialtydesignandstructuralprojectsasneeded.

• Bachelor'sormaster'sdegreefromaU.S.-accrediteduniversityinSoilScience,GeotechnicalEngineering,EnvironmentalScience,orarelatedfield.

• NorthCarolinaLicensedSoilScientist(LSS)orRegisteredEnvironmentalHealthSpecialist(REHS)credentialsrequired.

• 1–3yearsoffieldexperience.

• Hands-onexperiencewithsepticlayouts,septicinspections,andsepticservicelineevaluations.

• Experiencewithlanddevelopment,publicworks,orcivilconsultingengineeringprojectsinNorthCarolina'sCoastalPlainandPiedmontregions.

• ProficiencywithGeographicInformationSystems(GIS),CADDsoftware,andengineeringmappingtools.

• FamiliaritywithAutoCAD.

• Knowledgeofsoilscience,soilmechanics,onsitewastewatersystems,andapplicableenvironmentalregulations.

• Strongwrittenandverbalcommunication,organizational,andtime-managementskills.

• ProficiencywithMicrosoftOfficeandGoogleapplications,includingWord,Excel,Outlook,andGmail.

• Abilitytoworkindependentlywhilecollaboratingeffectivelywithateam.

• Full-timepositionwithacombinationofofficeandfieldresponsibilities.

• Mustbecomfortableworkingoutdoorsinvaryingweatherconditions.

• Abilitytostandforextendedperiods,bend,twist,andworkinconfinedspaces.

• Abilitytoliftandcarryupto50poundsasneeded.

• Regularuseofcomputersandofficeequipment.
