CNC Machinist About the Role
The CNC Machinist independently sets up and operates machining centers to produce precision components that meet defined quality standards, tolerances, and production timelines. This role supports efficient manufacturing by translating engineering drawings into effective machining strategies using CAD/CAM tools and on-machine program edits.
Success looks like consistently producing high-quality parts through accurate setup, optimized machining parameters, thorough in-process self-inspections, and proactive support of continuous improvement initiativeswhile upholding strong safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machining centers, including fixture installation and tool selection.
- Optimize machining parameters and make program edits directly at the machine to maintain quality and throughput.
- Produce parts that meet defined timeframes, tolerances, and dimensional requirements.
- Read, interpret, and verify engineering drawings, specifications, and design intent.
- Generate, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs using Mastercam or equivalent CAM software.
- Translate design intent into effective machining strategies to support efficient and accurate production.
- Conduct in-process self-inspections and document results, addressing non-conformances proactively.
- Perform dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Recommend tooling improvements to enhance process stability, repeatability, and part quality.
- Collaborate with management and engineering to improve manufacturability and reduce cycle times.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machining equipment; report equipment issues promptly.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, gantries, and forklifts to move materials and components as needed.
