About Optisys

Optisys is an innovative antenna technology company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We combine advanced RF design with metal additive manufacturing to create highly integrated, market-leading solutions for commercial aerospace and defense.

Position Summary

Manufacturing Process Engineers (MPEs) are the hub in which a product design is executed on the production floor. MPEs are skilled individuals that must be multi-faceted as they interface with every organization within OPTISYS. They must understand the limitations and abilities of the entire life cycle of additive manufacturing and associated processes. The ability for a part to be manufactured successfully hinges on the MPE’s ability to develop and plan accurately and appropriately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership over assigned work centers to maintain and develop work instructions, Process control, and process auditing, specifically the operation of the laser powder bed fusion printers, heat treatment and part de-powdering procedures.
  • Responsible for creating part routing and method of manufacturing for all products through the production flow and produce documentation to be used on the shop floor.
  • Prepare slice files for LBPF manufacturing.
  • Support the design review phases by assisting Program Management and mechanical design engineers regarding the manufacturability of the proposed designs. MPEs are to understand and communicate the limitations, abilities of designs and the impacts to schedule, budget or other technical risks.
  • Emphasized focus on lean manufacturing, 5S, and process and equipment optimization.
  • Help drive the success of monthly KPI’s including on-time delivery, Scrap rates, non-conformances, defects per opportunity, safety, and equipment utilization.
  • Hold a manufacturing readiness review (MRR) with key stakeholders prior to part release to production.
  • Participate and be active in daily planning and shop floor execution meetings.
  • Be engaged in maintaining the quality management system and performing operational and work center audits to drive continuous improvement.
  • Be an active participant in material review board (MRB) meetings to help resolve quality concerns.
  • Promote a culture of safety by being an example of proper usage of PPE, hazard identifying and reporting, and demonstrating safe behaviors.

Initial Focus (First 3 Months)

  • Become fluent in Optisys’ additive process control documents.
  • Become comfortable with model prep and slicing for the PBF printers.
  • Become comfortable with using the ERP system to build Bill of Processes.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to write process instructions, work instructions, and standards to ensure repeatable manufacturing results.
  • Proficiency with commercial CAD, simulation, or manufacturing tools (e.g., finite element analysis, CAD model preparation, or additive manufacturing workflows).
  • Print preparation, support design and slicing to prepare for additive manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of metal material properties and how process variations affect them.

Highly desired Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Python, scripting, and process automation.
  • Metal Material Science background including tensile testing.
  • Strong familiarity with Laser Powder Bed Fusion.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, material science or related field or deep experience in the industry.
  • 5–10 years of experience in additive manufacturing and/or manufacturing engineering.
  • Familiarity with Metal AM industry standards such as SAE/AMS 7003, and NASA-STD-6030.
  • Experience with IA9100 quality standards.
  • Experience with heat treatment process controls.
  • Experience with CAD tools (NX and Materialize Magics preferred).
  • Experience with configuration management and revision control.

Other Requirements
