Propulsion Development Technician in Pasadena, CA $18.57–$42.75/hr DOE, 1st shift, temporary contract. Fabricate tubing and assemble and test propulsion and fluid systems for flight hardware.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Flight hardware starts with fabrication and test work that can be traced and trusted.

Build precision tubing and pressure, propulsion, fluid, and purge systems from schematics and procedures. Support fabrication, welding, assembly, cleaning, and testing of developmental and flight hardware.

The work includes chemical cleaning, pressure testing, and ISO-5 cleanroom procedures with full cleanroom garments. The source also lists possible domestic or international travel; your recruiter will confirm the travel expectation before submission. This temporary assignment is currently scheduled through 9/24/2028. The 9/80 schedule includes extended workdays; exact daily hours and the alternating day off will be confirmed before submission.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Bend, flare, and face tubing within material and bend-radius limits
• Prepare tubing, purge parameters, and weld heads for orbital welding
• Assemble pressure, propulsion, fluid, and purge systems from schematics
• Install fittings, valves, regulators, gauges, filters, and relief devices at specified torque and cleanliness levels
• Perform proof, cold-shock, helium leak, moisture, and hydrocarbon testing
• Support flight system assembly, test, and launch-site operations
• Clean parts with approved solvents, detergents, and ultrasonic equipment
• Maintain weld logs, pressure-system tags, calibration records, and flight-hardware handling controls

WHAT YOU NEED

• High school diploma with 3 years of general work experience and related required training
• U.S. citizenship as required by the client
• Understanding of precision tubing fabrication, orbital welding, and pressure/propulsion/fluid assembly
• Experience with mechanical hardware assembly/test, electronic component installation/test, and flight hardware
• Hand-tool experience including drill presses, band saws, or grinders
• Knowledge of flight-hardware handling procedures
• Ability to travel as required

NICE TO HAVE

• Orbital tube welding certification, bending, and flaring
• Pressure-system fabrication, test, and certification
• Cleanroom operations and precision parts cleaning
• Manual machining, 3-axis mills, and lathes
• Electrical fabrication, soldering, cabling, and wiring diagrams

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Perform detailed hands-on fabrication, inspection, assembly, or testing with hand tools and equipment. Use fine manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and access the assigned workstations safely. Specific lifting, standing, and access demands will be confirmed before submission.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Laboratory, fabrication, and controlled cleanroom environments with cleaning chemicals, process equipment, and flight hardware. Follow chemical handling, cleanroom, and hardware-control procedures. PPE is required and provided where applicable, and all site safety procedures apply.
