Position Overview
The Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will support implementation-level reviews of vendor-developed software-requirement documents for the late-stage Pele nuclear project. The engineer will compare implementing hardware and software requirements against established plant I&C descriptions to confirm that system behavior, set points, alarms, interlocks, and operability requirements are accurately represented.
This is primarily a task-focused individual-contributor role centered on detailed technical document review. The engineer will work through the project’s senior I&C lead, who will retain primary responsibility for communication with the implementation partner and interpretation of higher-level plant requirements.
Responsibilities and Day-to-Day Activities
- Perform detailed two-person or independent-verification reviews of software-requirement and implementation documents.
- Compare vendor-developed requirements against approved plant I&C system descriptions.
- Verify set points, alarms, permissive, interlocks, operating states, and equipment-response requirements.
- Identify inconsistencies, omissions, or technical conflicts between plant requirements and implementing documentation.
- Document review comments clearly and provide technically defensible recommendations for resolution.
- Coordinate questions and findings through the senior I&C engineer rather than communicating independently with the implementation partner.
- Support resolution of comments and verify that required corrections are incorporated into revised documents.
- Perform work in accordance with applicable nuclear quality, configuration-management, and document-control processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- At least five years of experience supporting instrumentation, controls, electrical controls, automation, or safety-related systems.
- Experience reviewing technical requirements, control-system descriptions, software-requirement specifications, or implementation documents.
- Working knowledge of control-system functions such as set points, alarms, permissives, interlocks, equipment states, and operability requirements.
- Experience working in a nuclear, power-generation, defense, aerospace, or other safety-related environment.
- Ability to perform detailed, task-focused document reviews and clearly document discrepancies, comments, and recommended corrections.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial nuclear, DOE nuclear facility, or advanced-reactor project experience.
- Experience reviewing safety-related or quality-affecting software and control-system requirements.
- Familiarity with nuclear quality-assurance, configuration-management, and document-control requirements.
- Experience translating functional or system-level descriptions into implementation-level requirements.
- Previous experience with independent verification, two-person review, or comparable quality-review practices.
- Ability to work independently while escalating questions through an established technical lead.
