Senior RF Electrical Engineer
Location: Cedar Rapids area, Iowa (on-site)|U.S. citizenship required
Our client is an established designer and manufacturer of radio and communications electronics for aerospace, defense, and government customers. They are seeking a Senior RF Electrical Engineer to own radio and RF circuit designs hands-on, from first schematic through test and production.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As an individual contributor, you will independently design radios and major radio subsystems, test them in the lab, and see them through to customer acceptance. You will also serve as a reliable technical contact for customers.
A typical split: about 80% design and 20% customer-facing work.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
·Design radios and major radio subsystems, such as receivers, transmitters, synthesizers, and filters
·Implement and test modulation schemes such as AM, FM, SSB, PSK, and QAM in hardware
·Own designs from first schematic through lab testing and production, with minimal direction
·Bring up and debug new radio prototypes in the lab
·Write subsystem requirements and test procedures
·Work directly with customers on requirements and technical questions
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
·7+ years of RF, radio, or analog circuit design
·Experience designing radios or major radio subsystems, not just individual RF components
·Hands-on experience implementing and testing modulation schemes in real hardware
·A track record of owning designs with minimal direction, from schematic through lab testing
·Strong lab skills with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes
·Comfort working directly with customers
·BS in Electrical Engineering required
·U.S. citizenship required
NICE TO HAVE
·Software engineering or firmware knowledge, including software-defined radio (SDR) or digital signal processing
·Power amplifier design
·HF, VHF, or UHF radio experience
·Background in aerospace, defense, or aviation
·Experience with RF simulation and PCB design tools
WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING HERE
·Real ownership: Own your designs from first schematic through production.
·Hands-on work: Spend most of your time designing and testing in the lab.
·Complete systems: Work on full radios and subsystems, not just individual components.
·Customer contact: Work directly with aerospace, defense, and government customers.
·Small company: A close engineering team, without layers of bureaucracy.
