Job Description

Job Title: Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Systems Engineer plays a key role in developing, validating, and managing product-level system and subsystem requirements and architectures to ensure robust system integration. In this role, you analyze and design complex systems, devise alternative approaches and operational concepts, and optimize system performance, cost, risk mitigation, production, operations, and logistics. You create preliminary system design alternatives, manage design risk and configuration data from concept through delivery and operational support, and support system performance reviews and capacity planning activities. You also stay current with developments in systems engineering while managing multiple projects within defined design specifications and budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize multidisciplinary processes and systems engineering methodologies to develop, validate, and manage product-level system and subsystem requirements and architectures.
  • Ensure effective system integration across hardware, software, and operational components.
  • Devise alternative system approaches, operational concepts, architectures, and system-level attributes to optimize performance, cost, risk mitigation, production, operations, and logistics.
  • Create preliminary system design alternatives and manage design risk and configuration data from concept development through product delivery and operational support.
  • Perform analysis, simulation, design, and delivery of systems to meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Conduct system requirements analysis, definition, and allocation to subsystems and components.
  • Communicate project status and issues clearly to stakeholders and resolve discrepancies and problems in a timely manner.
  • Provide assistance with system performance reviews and support capacity planning activities as required.
  • Investigate, track, and thoroughly understand developments and best practices in systems engineering to enhance project outcomes.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to design specifications, timelines, and budget restrictions.
  • Engage in customer-facing activities, including requirements gathering and product-focused discussions, to ensure solutions meet client needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using tools such as Confluence and Jira to manage tasks and project documentation.
  • Perform other related systems engineering duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an engineering or systems-related role.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer interaction and customer-facing engineering activities.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with requirements gathering and requirements management for product-based solutions.
  • Professional experience working with product-based systems and solutions.
  • Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and application of the scientific method.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of basic principles, theories, concepts, and practices in the applicable area of engineering or technical specialization.
  • Experience with testing, verification, and validation protocols in an engineering context.
  • Ability to manage tasks and projects effectively, including prioritization and tracking of work.
  • Working knowledge of tools such as DOORS, Cameo, AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, and Jira.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or specialization in Electrical Engineering is a strong plus.
  • Experience with shipboard systems and marine-related technologies is highly desirable.
  • Experienced in working with government or defense-related projects is a plus.
  • Experience in project management, including planning, coordination, and reporting, is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and documentation tools such as Confluence.
  • Exposure to marine industry environments and systems is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to devise alternative system approaches and operational concepts.
  • Interest in research and development and in contributing to new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects within design and budget constraints.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, in a marine-focused engineering environment that supports both military and commercial applications. The organization operates in a stable sector with a strong mix of defense and commercial work, offering long-term stability and growth opportunities. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering and project teams, using tools such as DOORS, Cameo, AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, Jira, and Confluence to support systems design, documentation, and task management. The role includes limited travel, typically one to two times per quarter, primarily to customer sites when needed. The environment emphasizes innovation and research and development, providing the chance to work on new and evolving technologies rather than legacy or static products. Dress expectations align with a professional engineering and office setting, and the facilities are designed to support collaborative work, detailed system analysis, and product-focused engineering activities.
