Overview / Team History:

The Team sits within our client's Global Engineering Services (GES) division and is responsible for post-launch optimization, troubleshooting, and escalation support across our client's sortation network. Essentially, they compare what each facility was originally designed to do against how it's actually performing, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. They troubleshoot everything from large-scale design and system issues to smaller mechanical problems involving conveyors, sorters, and other MHE. The team works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and design teams to identify root causes and drive solutions. Their overall goal is to help facilities reach their intended operating capacity and run as efficiently as possible.

Project Background:

Our client is rolling out a new sortation center template called Central Hub in Cleburne, Texas, which is the largest sortation warehouse our client has ever built. This is a massive, mission-critical initiative featuring approximately 28 miles of conveyors and 25 sortation systems. The facility is already operational and currently processing approximately 750,000 in volume, with a goal of exceeding 1 million. The team will play a critical role in identifying performance gaps, troubleshooting issues, and increasing the facility's overall throughput. These engineers will have a front-row seat to one of our client's biggest sortation initiatives, with the first 3–5 months heavily focused on troubleshooting, stabilizing operations, and getting the site running at full capacity.

Day-to-Day:

  • Analyze operational data and compare current site performance against original engineering and design expectations.
  • Identify technical root causes of performance issues across MHE, sortation systems, conveyors, scanning systems, and PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot both large-scale system/design issues and smaller mechanical or controls-related failures.
  • Drive corrective actions and take ownership of issues through resolution.
  • Coordinate across operations, maintenance, engineering, design, and other stakeholders. Some issues may involve 100+ people working toward a solution.
  • Document lessons learned and support long-term site improvements.
  • Leverage data and potentially AI agents to help analyze and present operational findings.

Must-Haves:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience with controls, mechanical, systems, or industrial automation.
  • Strong controls engineering experience is HIGHLY preferred, but strong mechanical engineers with relevant automation experience will also be considered.
  • They don't need to be extremely hands on with controls and PLCs, etc but they need have some experience with is and be comfortable working it
  • MHE / sortation / conveyor experience, with strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ownership & Root Cause Analysis: Someone who takes initiative, dives deep into problems, and drives issues through resolution.
  • Stakeholder management: Ability to coordinate multiple engineering and operations teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver results.

Plusses:

  • Cross-belt sorters experience
  • Large-scale distribution center experience.
  • Python, SQL, or other programming experience.
  • AI experience, particularly using or training AI agents to analyze and present data.
