Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer will lead the electrical engineering design and layout of systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, correctional, and parks projects. This role focuses on creating detailed 3D and 2D designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, access control, and security systems, while supporting project documentation, cost estimating, and collaboration with other departments.

• Perform electrical engineering design and layout of systems for commercial, industrial, correctional, and parks projects.
• Design and model electrical systems in three dimensions, including power distribution systems, lighting systems, fire alarm, access control, and security systems.
• Prepare two-dimensional construction details for electrical system designs, including power distribution one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and related details.
• Model lighting systems using photometric software to design general and emergency lighting systems for commercial buildings.
• Produce electrical engineering construction drawings using AutoDesk Revit.
• Conduct field measurements and documentation by attending site visits to current or prospective job sites, photographing existing conditions, and taking clear and legible field notes.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and other project documentation.
• Assist in the development of probable construction cost estimates for electrical systems.
• Provide engineering support and collaboration to other departments as needed.

• Bachelors degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering and electrical design.
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and electrical system design for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
• Experience designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, access control, and security systems.
• Ability to prepare detailed one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and other construction details.
• Proficiency in producing electrical engineering construction drawings.
• Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other 3D modeling software preferred.
• Ability to perform accurate field measurements, document existing conditions, and prepare clear field notes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to create precise technical documentation and specifications.

• Experience working on commercial, industrial, correctional, and parks projects.
• Familiarity with photometric software for modeling and designing lighting systems.
• Ability to support cost estimating for electrical construction projects.
• Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting other departments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and project documentation.
• Ability to work both in an office environment and on active project sites.

The role is based in a typical office environment, with a portion of work performed outside on project sites. Site visits may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions. Work on project sites may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety boots or shoes, hard hat, safety vest, and other appropriate safety gear, in accordance with site safety requirements.

This is a Permanent position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
