Qualifications

Role And Position Objectives

As a software engineer supporting the NC3 business segment, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team to design, develop, integrate, and test the next generation of Strategic
Systems. Success in this role means delivering reliable, maintainable software that meets requirements and supports our nation’s security.

What You Will Accomplish

• Deliver working software: Translate system and software requirements into object-oriented designs and tested code that meets agreed-upon acceptance criteria.
• Build quality into each release: Develop and execute tests, investigate failures, and resolve defects to verify functionality and prevent regressions.
• Strengthen software security: Use static application security testing (SAST) tools to identify, assess, and remediate findings in accordance with project requirements.
• Contribute to predictable delivery: Participate in Agile planning, provide realistic estimates, communicate progress and risks, and complete commitments to the team’s definition of done.
• Improve development efficiency: Use Python and shell scripting, where appropriate, to automate repeatable development, testing, and analysis tasks.
• Maintain traceable work: Use GitLab and Atlassian tools to manage code changes, reviews, work items, and documentation so teammates can understand and build on your contributions.
• Support system integration: Work across engineering disciplines to resolve interface issues and verify that software performs as intended within the larger system.

What Successful Performance Looks Like

• Apply software engineering principles to produce clear designs, maintainable code, and objective evidence that requirements are met.
• Learn unfamiliar technologies and domain concepts, then apply that knowledge to increasingly complex assignments.
• Identify technical risks and blockers early, communicate their impact, and help develop practical resolutions.
• Contribute constructive code reviews, share knowledge, and help the team achieve shared delivery and quality goals.
• Use feedback and ongoing professional development to improve your work and support the growth of others.

Experience with object-oriented development, Agile practices, SAST tools, GitLab, Python, Bash, and Atlassian products will help you achieve these outcomes.

Our Commitment To You

• An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
• Research-oriented work alongside award-winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security.
• Flexible schedules, including an optional 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
• Competitive benefits, including 401(k) matching, flexible time off, paid parental leave, healthcare, health and wellness programs, and employee resource and social groups.
