Job Description

Job Description
Your day at a glance

Step onto the shop floor and into a hands-on learning path. You’ll partner with experienced machinists who set up tooling and define operation sequences from written specifications and blueprints. Your role is to study those prints, confirm tolerances, and align each step to the job routing so precision parts for engines, machinery, and other products are produced right the first time.

What you’ll do
  • Uphold strict quality control aligned to ISO standards and perform in-process inspections per the IPI.
  • Troubleshoot alongside machinists to reduce scrap and rework; communicate issues across shifts and with the shift supervisor.
  • Support setup and operation of conventional, special-purpose, and CNC machining centers.
  • Review drawings, sketches, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to verify dimensions and allowable tolerances.
  • Calculate and adjust machining parameters (speed, feed, coolant flow, depth/angle of cut) and enter/retrieve/edit CNC control data as directed.
  • Fabricate parts per routing instructions; make machine adjustments and execute program offsets under guidance.
  • Change cutting tools as required; secure and maintain tooling per established requirements.
  • Document production: record job issues on the Production Control form and complete daily Job Cards for all work.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance; clean and organize your work area.
  • Shut down and lock out equipment when not in use, where applicable.
Also part of the job
  • Deburr components during machine cycles when time allows.
  • Back up programs at job completion.
  • Tag all non-conforming parts immediately.
  • Request needed tools on the white boards and use them to communicate updates.
  • Join periodic “walk-about” activities when scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
  • Basic reading and writing with solid applied math; typically gained via high school diploma or trade school.
  • Hands-on familiarity with at least one: lathe, milling machine, drill press, or vertical/horizontal cut-off saw.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand routings; working knowledge of geometric tolerances.
  • Strong manual dexterity for machine operation and computer use.
  • A growth mindsetjourneyman-level work ahead involves programming skill and job setup experience.
Physical demands
  • Regular walking (including to/from storage), bending, stooping, and standing.
  • Lift up to 30 lbs; cranes are available for heavier items.
Work environment

Typical manufacturing setting. Safety gear is mandatory: eye protection, hearing protection as needed, and closed-toe leather shoes. Loose clothing and jewelry are not allowed due to safety risks.
