Join a skilled Facilities Management team supporting the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. We're seeking experienced Carpenters to perform construction, repair, modification, and facility-maintenance work supporting critical healthcare operations. Multiple positions are available, and recruiting is underway.

Job Summary

The Carpenter will perform commercial carpentry, construction, repair, and building-maintenance work throughout the medical center. This position requires an experienced trades professional who can safely complete a variety of structural, finish, hardware, and facility repair projects within an active healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Construct and repair partitions, walls, ceilings, doors, frames, windows, and trim.
• Install and repair cabinets, shelving, and casework.
• Work with wood, metal studs, and composite materials.
• Install and repair ceiling grid and lay-in ceiling tile.
• Support flooring and underlayment work.
• Construct and repair forms, ramps, curbs, platforms, and miscellaneous structures.
• Maintain and repair doors, closers, locks, thresholds, and weather stripping.
• Perform minor lock and hardware repairs.
• Safely operate stationary and portable woodworking equipment.
• Inspect building components and identify deficiencies.
• Estimate required labor time and materials.
• Prepare and complete work orders.
• Provide as-built sketches or notes for significant modifications when required.

Qualifications

• Relevant professional carpentry and building-maintenance experience.
• Minimum five (5) years of trade experience with commercial or hospital experience.
• Experience installing and repairing doors, walls, ceilings, cabinetry, flooring, hardware, and related building components.
• Ability to safely operate carpentry and woodworking tools and equipment.
• Ability to read work instructions, drawings, and specifications as applicable.
• Ability to estimate required materials and complete work-order documentation.
• Ability to perform work safely within an active healthcare facility.
