Fire Protection Engineer

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer for a long-term contract position with a Global Professional Services Firm located in Arlington, VA.

This role involves acting as the Designer of Record for fire protection design projects in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle, from information gathering and design to construction administration, while also mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the Designer of Record (DOR) for Fire Protection design projects including schedule, budget, delegation of work, quality control, and sealing/stamping construction drawings
• Gather information, interview stakeholders, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches
• Present findings and outcomes to clients and other stakeholders
• Perform designs for fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layout using hydraulic calculation programs and knowledge of ICC, NFPA, International Building and Fire Codes
• Perform product research and assist project designers with materials selection and system research
• Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks, including managing documents, RFI's and Change Orders
• Provide staffing development and mentoring for junior staff
• Provide project quality control reviews at project milestones

Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship
• Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Safety Technology or a related field
• At least 4 years of Fire Protection design experience
• Proficiency in REVIT
• Overseas & US based travel may be required

Desired skills:

• Previous DoD experience, basic competency with Federal energy standards, Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) and other Government requirements
• Design Build experience and DBIA certification
• Clearance or ability to secure a clearance
• PE in any US State, having passed the fire protection engineering examination
