About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Powder Coating Production Manager to oversee daily department operations in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role manages employees, equipment, materials, and production schedules within a conveyorized powder coating operation. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, effective leadership skills, and a commitment to consistent quality and on-time production.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage daily production schedules to meet customer requirements and internal deadlines.
- Review upcoming custom color requirements and coordinate powder purchasing and availability.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of standard powder colors and department supplies.
- Schedule and oversee multiple daily color changeovers to support production needs and minimize downtime.
- Oversee all stages of the powder coating process, including washing, powder application, and curing.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues involving washers, powder application systems, and curing ovens.
- Assign work, communicate priorities, and coordinate staffing to support efficient department operations.
- Schedule, coordinate, and track preventive maintenance activities.
- Review finished-part quality with supervisors and production employees to ensure specifications and quality standards are met.
- Work with other departments to establish handling and packaging methods that protect coated parts during movement between production stages.
- Communicate with departments before and after the coating process to maintain workflow and resolve production concerns.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, productivity, material usage, and equipment performance.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain an organized production area.
Skills and Qualifications
- At least five years of experience managing a conveyorized powder coating operation. Experience must include conveyorized systems; batch coating experience alone does not meet this requirement.
- Experience overseeing high-volume powder coating production.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation, powder application, curing, and coating quality requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot washers, powder application equipment, and curing systems.
- Previous leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong production planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
- Experience with inventory management and purchasing.
- Ability to communicate clearly and lead supervisors and production employees effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and manage changing production priorities.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, requiring regular presence on the production floor and close coordination with production employees and other departments.
