Job Description

About the Position

DCI Signs & Awnings, Inc., a commercial manufacturer and installer of architectural awnings, canopies, sunshades, and signage, is seeking a reliable, organized, and hands-on Field Project Coordinator / Assistant Project Manager.

This is a construction-related position involving both fieldwork and office coordination. It is not an IT, software, or technology project management role.

The ideal candidate has practical experience working on construction sites, is comfortable taking accurate field measurements, reading construction drawings, using ladders, and working at heights in accordance with safety requirements.

This position works directly with our Project Managers to help coordinate projects from initial site surveys through fabrication, installation, and closeout.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to take accurate field measurements, verify dimensions, and document existing conditions.
  • Use tape measures, laser measuring tools, ladders, and other standard field equipment.
  • Photograph and document jobsite conditions, mounting locations, clearances, and potential installation obstacles.
  • Review field measurements against architectural and approved shop drawings, identifying discrepancies before fabrication.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, shop personnel, installation crews, subcontractors, and general contractors.
  • Assist in confirming jobsite readiness before installations are scheduled.
  • Track project progress, installation schedules, outstanding items, and required follow-ups.
  • Assist with municipal permit applications, inspections, and related site visits.
  • Prepare and organize field reports, project documentation, submittals, and installation information.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, contractors, and internal team members.
  • Identify and report potential issues promptly to avoid delays or costly mistakes.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Previous hands-on experience in commercial construction, installation, carpentry, glazing, metal fabrication, signage, awnings, or a related trade.
  • Experience taking accurate field measurements and working from construction drawings.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and at heights while following applicable safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with construction jobsites, installation methods, and basic building materials.
  • Experience coordinating with field crews, contractors, or construction project managers.

Required:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions, retain information, and complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, including professional email correspondence.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and follow through without constant reminders.
  • Willingness to learn our products, fabrication processes, and installation requirements.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to jobsites throughout Northern NJ and the NY metropolitan area.
  • Ability to perform essential field duties safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable walking a construction site with a tape measure and coordinating project details from the office.

Accuracy, accountability, initiative, and follow-through are essential. This person should be observant, willing to ask questions, and able to recognize when something in the field doesn't match the plans.

This position involves approximately 50% fieldwork and 50% office responsibilities, depending on project needs.

We provide training on our specific products and procedures, with opportunities to grow into a Project Manager position.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume outlining your relevant construction, field measurement, installation, or project coordination experience. References are preferred.

Candidates with hands-on construction or field experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
