Looking for a part-time job that gets you out of the same four walls every day?
Green Light Driving School is looking for friendly, dependable individuals to join our team as Behind-the-Wheel Driving Instructors.
No previous driving instructor experience? No problem!
We welcome qualified applicants who are new to the profession and can help guide you through the Illinois Secretary of State instructor licensing process. Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required.
You’ll work one-on-one with new drivers, helping them develop the skills, confidence, and judgment they need to become safe, responsible drivers.
What You’ll Do
- Provide one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction to new drivers.
- Teach vehicle control, parking, defensive driving, and real-world decision-making.
- Help students build confidence and develop safe driving habits.
- Pick up and drop off students throughout our local service area.
- Guide students through different roads, traffic situations, and driving conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of student lessons and progress.
- Help keep training vehicles clean, safe, and ready for use.
- Communicate with our office team regarding student progress and unexpected situations.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Dependable: Students and families rely on instructors to arrive on time and honor scheduled appointments.
- Patient: Some students are nervous beginners who need extra encouragement.
- Calm and confident: New drivers take their cues from you, especially in stressful situations.
- Friendly and encouraging: You can correct mistakes without making students more anxious.
- Organized and communicative: You can follow procedures, maintain records, and keep the office informed.
- Comfortable behind the wheel: You’re able to teach in a variety of real-world driving conditions.
Scheduling and Flexibility
This is a part-time position, with most lessons taking place after school, during evenings, and on weekends throughout the school year.
Summer brings additional opportunities! With students available throughout the day, instructors have opportunities to work additional hours.
We understand that our instructors have other jobs, families, and commitments. We’ll work with your availability when building schedules, but once lessons are scheduled, we expect instructors to reliably commit to them.
Hours vary based on availability and student demand.
Instructor Licensing
All instructors must meet Illinois Secretary of State licensing requirements.
Not currently licensed? That’s okay! Green Light Driving School can help qualified candidates navigate the licensing process. Prior teaching experience is not required.
