About the position
Syntec Optics is seeking an organized, detail-oriented person to coordinate our equipment calibration program within the Quality and Metrology department.
You will track measuring and inspection equipment, monitor calibration due dates, coordinate services with outside calibration vendors, and maintain complete and accurate records. Your work will help ensure that equipment is properly identified, current on calibration, and available when our manufacturing and inspection teams need it.
Previous quality department experience is required. Direct calibration experience is helpful but not required; we can train the right candidate on our equipment, systems, and procedures. This role focuses on coordination, equipment control, and documentation, with technical support from our Quality and Metrology team.
What you will do
- Maintain the equipment calibration database, including equipment identification, serial numbers, locations, assigned users, calibration dates, and supporting records.
- Monitor upcoming calibration deadlines and follow up with equipment owners and vendors to keep calibrations current.
- Coordinate vendor quotations, service scheduling, shipping, returns, and on-site calibration visits.
- Work with production, engineering, and inspection teams to make equipment available for calibration while minimizing disruption.
- Review calibration certificates for required information and completeness, follow up on missing documentation, and refer technical questions to the appropriate Quality or Metrology personnel.
- Update calibration labels and equipment status after the required review and approval.
- Identify and flag overdue, damaged, or failed equipment; follow established procedures to prevent unauthorized use and promptly notify Quality personnel.
- Maintain organized calibration histories and provide records for internal audits, customer requests, and other quality reviews.
- Track open vendor issues and provide clear updates on upcoming, overdue, and completed calibrations.
- Help improve equipment tracking, record accuracy, and the overall calibration process.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience in a quality department or quality-related role, such as quality inspection, quality assurance, quality control, or quality documentation.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and following written procedures.
- Comfort using Excel, email, and computerized tracking systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly with vendors and coworkers and manage multiple deadlines.
- Willingness to work throughout a manufacturing facility to locate equipment and coordinate with its users.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Helpful, but not required
- Experience with calibration scheduling, gauge control, measuring equipment, or equipment tracking.
- Familiarity with quality management systems, document control, or audit preparation.
- Experience arranging outside services or coordinating vendor paperwork.
