Job Description

Job Description
Associate Project Manager, Insurance Due Diligence

Remote (US) or hybrid in St. Louis, Dallas or Austin | Full-time | $55,000–$85,000 base, bonus and commission eligible

We are looking for a protg. If you have learned commercial insurance at a large brokerage and want to find out how far you can go, we will teach you how companies get bought and sold, and what insurance has to do with the price.

There is no special trick here, just hard work, intelligence and a good attitude. Nothing would make us happier than teaching someone the skills to realize their potential on a personal, intellectual and financial basis.

About NewCo Risk

NewCo Risk is unlike any other broker we know of. We have clients in more than 40 states, and we emphasize professionalism and white-glove service for small business and middle market commercial clients. Our growth is driven primarily by our diligence work on lower middle market business acquisitions for private equity investors. We advise on both the insurance and employee benefits issues those deals raise. Outside of M&A, we are generalists, with no insurer, industry or geographic focus.

Before a deal closes, we review the target company's insurance and benefits and tell the buyer what could change the price or the risk. When it closes, our goal is to become that company's broker. We use AI everywhere we can to reduce the tedium of data entry, which leaves more of your time for thinking and for clients.

We are a young company, but we are not new to insurance. We are building the company we wanted to work at before we started our own. You will work directly with the two partners who founded it.

Who we are

We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We are quietly confident in who we are: not the best at everything, but we strive to be the best at what we do. These are our values:

  • Professionalism: grit, attention to detail, attentiveness, acumen and accountability
  • Humanity: empathy, respect, and investing in personal growth and development
  • Innovation: kaizen, a can-do attitude, problem solving and unconventional thinking

Here is our deal with you. We give you the freedom to work remotely, be yourself, be heard and respected, pursue your passions, and get the support to grow your career. We ask that you take ownership of your work and meet our high standards for accountability to our clients and our team.

The role

A year from now, you will be running due diligence engagements from the first call with the buyer through closing, with a partner reviewing your work. You will have presented reports to buyers, placed coverage on your own deals and helped turn target companies into long-term clients. You will also be starting to bring in business of your own, and your pay will reflect it.

What you'll do
  • Lead the engagement. Run the kickoff call with the buyer, learn how the deal is structured and when it will close, and keep every task on the deal timeline.
  • Work the data room. Open every document in the online folder where the seller shares its records. Confirm that a file labeled "policy" really is the policy, then send a tailored information request within 24 hours.
  • Find what matters. Compare premiums with the financial statements, test whether the revenue and payroll on the policies match the business, review loss history, and flag anything that affects value or creates compliance risk.
  • Deliver the report. Prepare insurance due diligence reports and walk buyers through them. You are accountable for every word, and a partner reviews each report before it goes out.
  • Place coverage. Take cyber and management liability to market, and brief our account managers on the property and casualty marketing. You are the bridge between a sophisticated financial buyer and our brokerage team.
  • Support representations and warranties insurance (RWI). This coverage protects a buyer if statements the seller made in the purchase agreement prove untrue. You will gather what underwriters need and track their requirements through closing.
  • Close and hand off. Manage the closing checklist, including lender certificates, auto ID cards and certificate holder lists, then hand the new client to our service team.

The hard part is that deals run on someone else's clock. Closing dates always change, and the seller's team is often stretched thin, with insurance low on their list. Every request you send is also your first impression on a future client.

What we're looking for

You do not need M&A experience. We will teach it.

Required

  • At least 2 years of commercial insurance experience at a large national or large regional brokerage
  • Client-facing experience, which does not have to be in insurance
  • An active property and casualty license, or willingness to obtain one within 90 days of hire
  • Proficiency in AI

Preferred

  • A past job in retail, food service or hospitality. If you have worked a packed dining room or a holiday sales floor, you already know how to look after people under pressure.
  • Understanding of, or exposure to, financial markets, corporate finance or alternative asset classes
  • Experience with an agency management system such as Momentum (NowCerts) or Applied Epic
  • A CIC, CPCU or ARM designation, or progress toward one
Compensation and benefits

The base salary is $55,000–$85,000, depending on experience. The job starts on salary and moves quickly to base plus bonus or base plus commission. We believe in rewarding people for performance, so we pay producer-rate commissions to every employee who generates revenue, not just producers.

Benefits are negotiable but can include health insurance reimbursement, a 401(k) match after 90 days, employer-paid short-term disability and basic life insurance, paid time off, and training and development reimbursement.

Did we mention that every day is Casual Friday?

How to apply

Email with your resume and a few lines on why this role interests you.

You are also welcome to include a link to a brief video introducing yourself, where you want to be in five years and how you plan to get there. A video is encouraged but not required. If your resume has some deficiencies, it might help us see what we're missing.
