Build one-of-a-kind parts that power automation
Step into our prototype shop and start your day collaborating with designers and assembly technicians. You’ll study drawings and 3D models, decide on tooling, program or set up the mill or lathe, and cut precision parts to exacting tolerances. Some days you’ll assemble or break down simple fixtures and tooling; other days you’ll refine feeds and speeds to perfect a surface finish. Throughout, you’ll keep an eye on emerging machining methods, tooling innovations, and new hardware/software shaping the automation industry.
What you’ll do
- Fabricate individual components and assembliesfrom simple to complexto exact dimensional and angular print tolerances.
- Occasionally assemble and disassemble simple fixtures and tooling.
- Work from printed part drawings, 3D part models, verbal instructions, and CAM outputs to machine parts accurately.
- Select tooling and set feeds/speeds for both manual and CNC equipment.
- Stay current on modern machining techniques, tooling, and new hardware/software relevant to automation.
How you’ll work
- Direction received from: Fabrication Department Manager.

What you bring
- Hands-on experience with milling machines, lathes, and related manual/CNC shop equipment.
- Proficiency in tooling selection and setting appropriate feeds and speeds.
- Ability to interpret ANSI/ISO dimensioning and symbols, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Comfort reading printed drawings and navigating 3D models.
- Ability to machine from verbal direction and with CAM software.
- Conversational CNC programming experience (preferred).
- NIMS training (a plus).
- Experience with a machine designer/builder (strong plus).
