This team is building and evolving the platform capabilities and backend services that power aPriori’s products and leverage the company’s proprietary data into insights and AI-driven capabilities

In this role, you will design, build, deploy, and maintain backend services, APIs, and platform infrastructure that support business intelligence, advanced analytics, and AI-driven products. The ideal candidate is a versatile backend engineer with solid software engineering fundamentals, paired with exposure to data warehouse design and modern data architectural patterns; broader exposure to cloud platforms and pipeline orchestration is a plus

Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland (Hybrid)

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, build, and maintenance of services and APIs, including data-facing interfaces, semantic layers, and curated data products, to enable analytics and AI capabilities.
  • Partner with Product Management and product teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions that address internal and external business needs.
  • Model and structure complex manufacturing and simulation datasets and domain objects for analytics, AI/ML, and product integration use cases.
  • Provide technical guidance, design review and mentoring to Engineers within the data platform team, collaborating closely with AI Engineers, BI Developers, and Platform Engineers to deliver robust, production-grade software and data capabilities.
  • Partner with QA and business stakeholders to support product initiatives, ensuring solutions are reliable, well-tested, and aligned with customer and organisational needs.
  • Drive CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps best practices for the services you build.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, and system reliability by applying strong engineering best practices and tools.
  • Play a key role in shaping direction on architecture, service design, and data processing by evaluating emerging tools and techniques, and translate those decisions into multi-phase technical roadmaps.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong hands-on experience in data engineering or software engineering roles.
  • High proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, or similar) and SQL.
  • Demonstrated expertise in system design and service architecture, with the judgment to own architectural decisions for scalable, maintainable backend systems, spanning both data-intensive services and general-purpose platform services.
  • Strong understanding of software quality practices, including testing, validation, and monitoring of production systems.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Desirable:

  • Experience in database and/or data warehouse design, and modern data architectural patterns such as Medallion or Data Mesh.
  • Hands-on experience with data pipeline orchestration and ETL/ELT tools (e.g. Airflow, Temporal, dbt, Airbyte, Fivetran, or similar).
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices, or event-driven architecture patterns at scale.
  • Experience with performance and scalability engineering for high-throughput backend services.
  • Experience building data products or customer-facing analytics platforms.
  • Exposure to traditional AI/ML/MLOps or GenAI/LLMOps.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade services and platforms in a product-led environment.
