Manufacturing Excellence Engineer is responsible for improving manufacturing processes across assigned value streams to ensure optimal flow, efficiency, and quality. This role focuses on reducing cost, improving lead time, and driving continuous improvement through structured methodologies. The Industrial Engineer partners cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Procurement to resolve process issues, drive corrective actions, and implement sustainable improvements that support customer demand and zero-defect production.

Key Responsibilities We Will Trust You With:
Manufacturing Support & Process Optimization
- Lead continuous improvement efforts across assigned manufacturing value stream
- Serve as a hands-on manufacturing resource with a strong daily presence on the shop floor, working directly with operators and supervisors to troubleshoot production issues, remove barriers, resolve process problems in real time, and support safe, efficient day-to-day operations.
- Spends the majority of time on the manufacturing floor supporting daily operations, responding to production challenges, coaching operators on processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and driving timely resolution of manufacturing issues to maintain safety, quality, delivery, and productivity targets.
- Analyze production processes, workflows, and performance data to identify opportunities for efficiency gains.
- Drive improvements in throughput, labor utilization, material flow, and process capability.
- Utilize Lean tools and value stream mapping to eliminate non-value-added activities.
- Design and optimize work cells, facility layouts, and manufacturing flow to support operational objectives.
- Support capacity planning and manufacturing scalability initiatives.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Facilitate Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma initiatives across the site.
- Lead structured problem-solving efforts and root cause analysis activities.
- Identify and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions
- Develop metrics and dashboards that support data-driven operational improvements.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence while leading behaviors that support our core values of accountability, creativity, collaboration and excellence
New Product Introduction & Process Development
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to ensure successful product launches.
- Support process validation, production readiness activities, and First Article Inspections.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing process documentation and standard work.
- Ensure manufacturing processes are robust, repeatable, and scalable.
Quality & Performance Improvement
- Support initiatives focused on reducing Cost of Non-Quality (CNQ).
- Utilize SPC, APQP, PFMEA, and related quality methodologies to improve manufacturing performance.
- Identify and implement solutions that reduce defects and improve process consistency.
- Partner with internal teams and suppliers to resolve process-related quality issues.
Technology & Project Leadership
- Lead manufacturing improvement projects from concept through implementation.
- Identify opportunities for automation, digital manufacturing, and process innovation.
Evaluate, justify, and implement new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to achieve business objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Planning, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.
- Build strong relationships that foster alignment, accountability, and execution.
- Influence stakeholders and drive change across multiple functions.
Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise that matter most for this role:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, continuous improvement, operational excellence, or process engineering.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, or similar methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to drive change and influence cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience.
- Experience with machining, welding, assembly, testing, or discrete manufacturing processes.
- Experience utilizing SPC, APQP, PFMEA, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience implementing automation or advanced manufacturing technology solutions.
- Experience within a union manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to ERP and manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, metrology, and assembly/testing
- Experience with flow meters, electronics, or measurement equipment preferred
Key Interactions
Internally:Collaborate with Operations & Manufacturing, Engineering (Design, Manufacturing, Product Quality), Quality, Planning, Procurement & Sourcing, and Product Lifecycle Management teams
Externally:Interact with key suppliers and vendors supporting manufacturing processes, including equipment providers, tooling vendors, and external partners involved in corrective actions and process improvements
Work Environment:
This role is primarily based in the manufacturing environment and requires significant daily time spent on the shop floor. The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer works directly with operators, supervisors, and support functions to resolve issues, implement improvements, and support production objectives. Position requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor with frequent standing, walking, and interaction with production areas. Work includes periodic sitting for analysis and documentation, routine computer use, and occasional lifting, bending, or use of stairs.
