This position is based at Serenity House, VNA Health's inpatient hospice facility. We are seeking a Per Diem Inpatient Cook to work alongside our Chef and interdisciplinary care team to prepare nutritious, comforting meals tailored to each patient's individual needs and preferences. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, wants to grow their culinary skills, and is passionate about making a meaningful difference through food.

Schedule:

• Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

• Shifts: Approximately 1–2 shifts per week, with potential opportunities to pick up additional days.

• Days: Serenity House operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scheduling may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays based on facility needs.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Prepares meals according to all health and safety standards, in accordance with licensing requirements and Dietary recommendations.
2. Works with interdisciplinary team to provide meals that satisfy the terminally ill patient.
3. Works with the chef to monitor use of all food items.
4. Help assure that patient’s food preferences are adhered to as much as possible; and substitutes for all food refused shall be from appropriate food groups.
5. Therapeutic diets shall be provided for each patient as prescribed and shall be planned, prepared and served with supervision and/or consultation from the Chef and dietician.
6. Maintains accurate records of refrigeration
7. Cleans and maintains a safe kitchen environment, equipment, and all patient food utensils and items.
8. Works with the chef to adhere to Serenity House budget.

Position Qualifications:

1. Certified Cook (preferred but not required).
2. Hospice and home care experience preferred.
3. Understanding of the nutritional needs of the terminally ill.
4. Understanding of the psychosocial issues of food and care giving.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
6. Ability to work well individually and in cooperation with an interdisciplinary group.
7. Basic working knowledge and skill of computers (email) required.
8. Must have ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with professionals and lay group.
9. Reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
2. Ability to push/pull 50 lbs.
3. Ability to stoop, bend, and squat.
4. Ability to walk up one flight of stairs.
5. Ability to walk one mile.
6. Ability to sit for one hour, minimum.
7. Visual and audio acuity.
