Tunes, adjusts, regulates equipment engines, valves, pumps, carburetors and other mechanical components with variable setting. Lubricates and services vehicles, equipment or machinery and maintains accurate record of such service. Enters all truck tasks and time into fleet management software. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting. Assists with keeping shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance. Contains costs by using potential warranty; evaluating service and parts options. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Regularly participates in the housekeeping of the mechanic shop to ensure a safe work environment; to include sweeping, cleaning up spills, using appropriate containers for rags, keeping walkways clear of clutter, returning tools/parts to appropriate storage containers/area, closing doors on cabinets, etc. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment & vehicle problems to determine method and extent of repairs needed.
