Role Summary: The Business Intelligence Developer is the sole subject matter expert in researching and developing data pipelines, data governance, data quality, and Extract Transform Load (ETL/ELT) activities supporting analytical and data science workloads including ad hoc analysis, visualizations, machine learning and artificial intelligence. As an individual contributor, this role defines long-term strategy for analytics using the cloud and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to turn complex business problems into query-able data sets to drive business performance. Key Duties: Leverage expertise to design and implement strategy for migration of data from on-prem to cloud to drive business decisions and create value for Alaska Airlines.Collaborate with Business Intelligence Analysts on discovery and cleansing of data sources.Collaborate with Data Services, DBAs, and other technology professionals to deliver data initiatives that support business intelligence, reporting, and analytics.Work closely with business stakeholders and team to clearly understand their requirements, implement technology solutions, and own the resulting systems.Research new data sources and develop data pipelines that support analytics and AI/ML.Optimize existing analytics and data science pipelines and workflows.Identify, investigate, and solve data quality issues and make sure the data is reliable.Lead subject matter expert and primary data steward for business unit supporting overall data governance.Exercise considerable latitude and initiative to design and implement robust data engineering solutions in the business intelligence environment.Own the engineering standards to ensure best practices are being used by the BI teams.Create documentation including solution design, meta data, and training materials. Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills: Required7 years of experience in data analytics or a related area.Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or engineering, or an additional 2 years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including analytics, reporting, data cleansing, data quality and relational databases.Experience with data transformation in cloud-based analytics environments.Knowledge of distributed computing systems and cloud architecture.In-depth understanding of database principles and experience in querying data from multiple sources using SQL, Python, Spark or other advanced query / database techniques.Experience in working in data lake and unstructured data environments.Knowledge of visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools (such as Tableau, management systems).Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with a variety of team members.Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development.Demonstrate experience in coaching and mentoring BI analysts.High school diploma or equivalent.Minimum age of 18.Must be authorized to work in the U.S.PreferredMaster’s degree in a related field.2+ years of airline/transportation/logistics experience.Experience with Azure tools (mainly Databricks, Data Factory and Synapse).Experience with Alteryx and SSMS or similar. Salary Range: $117,500 - $176,300 / year Salary Details: Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
