The STT is a centralized center of technical excellence made up of geoscience and reservoir engineering subject matter experts who support bpx energy’s multi-rig program across the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville development teams. The purpose of the Geoscience team in STT is to drive technical excellence, pursue and adopt innovation, optimize subsurface workflows, and solve the toughest technical problems –through a commercial lens.We are searching for a geologist holding a minimum of 15 years of validated proven experience in U.S. unconventional plays.Critical Capacities:1) expertise in sedimentology & stratigraphy;2) expertise in depositional systems and interpretation;3) a consistent record integrating geologic concepts with other subsurface subject areas such as petrophysics, geophysics, and petroleum systems;4) expertise in mapping, prospect identification, and resource evaluation;5) moderate to sophisticated expertise in evaluating well performance from a subsurface standpoint;6) moderate to sophisticated expertise in 3D geo-cellular modeling of subsurface rock properties;7) a strong understanding of well planning, geo-steering, drilling, and completions performance from a subsurface standpoint. While a robust knowledge of theoretical concepts is foundational, it is required that the candidate can demonstrate the expertise in the above capacities applied to the U.S. unconventional oil and gas business. A track record of strong integration across multiple subject areas coupled with excellent communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate has a personal dedication to inclusion, respect, transparency, ownership, teamwork, and ethics & compliance. The ideal candidate embraces and has experience with fast-paced, agile, and lean work environments. Under such dynamic conditions, it is critical that the ideal candidate has a growth mindset with demonstrated ability to learn, improve, and adapt quickly. Lastly, we are searching for attributes of being data driven, detailed oriented, exercising independent judgment, problem solving, thinking critically, and dealing with unstructured & uncertain situations.Key Accountabilities:The main responsibility of the Lead Geologist individual contributor in the STT is to use independent judgement in developing, distributing, and supervising geology products of the highest technical excellence that become the standard in bpx energy. Such geology products advise reservoir, drilling or completions engineering and are sought at identifying and mitigating geo-hazards & subsurface uncertainty, improving reserves, and minimizing cost. Specific accountabilities include:· Develop and maintain up to date geology products for the three bpx energy assets – Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville – such as stratigraphic + depositional interpretations, 3D geo-cellular models, and subsurface property maps. This includes integrating petrophysics- and geophysics-based evaluations.· Provide geology technical underpinning that enable incremental production and cost savings by addressing the assets’ needs + challenges on well performance and, drilling and completions execution. This includes executing or leading technical projects via well-established concepts, innovation, and cross-discipline collaboration.· Own partners such as peers and leadership in the STT, asset, drilling, and completions teams. This includes proactively establishing and maintaining relationships + channels of communication, understanding business needs, and keeping collaborators regularly appraised of the status of technical projects.· Elevate the assets’ knowledge base, standards, and capabilities. This includes standardizing, maintaining, and optimizing subsurface processes; assuring or peer reviewing technical work; offering and hosting one-on-one mentoring sessions; offering and leading technical development opportunities.· Pursue and actualize innovative proposals in the geology domain. This includes exploring, incubating, and developing new technologies + technical workflows; engaging with third-party service providers and other operators; and attending fit-for-purpose technical conferences and consortia meetings.· Progress hydrocarbon resources by exploring new prospects and developing appraisal strategies. This includes evaluating shallower or deeper stratigraphic intervals and new geographic areas. · Support the business development team on acquisitions and divestitures. This includes data analysis, technical assurance, and cross-discipline collaboration.· Lead core storage needs and service providers. Coordinate and lead core workshops, including core descriptions. · Visit the field to support technical projects such as leading all aspects of specialty data acquisition programs.Crucial EducationMaster of Science in Geology or GeoscienceCrucial Experience:Personal dedication to inclusion, respect, transparency, ownership, safety, ethics, and compliance.· Minimum of 15 years of industry experience working as a Geologist in U.S. unconventional plays.· Applied and proven expertise in sedimentology & stratigraphy; depositional systems and interpretation; integratinggeologic concepts with other subsurface disciplines such as petrophysics, geophysics, and petroleum systems;mapping, prospect identification, and resource evaluation.· Moderate to advanced expertise in 3D geo-cellular modeling of subsurface rock properties; evaluating wellperformance from a subsurface standpoint.
