This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.About the Program:The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at EMT Academy at Abbott EMS-Decatur. The Academy is a rigorous eight-week program which qualifies the employee to take the EMT National Registry and local area protocols exam. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees and uniforms will be paid by Abbott EMS Decatur. The class schedule will be Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increase to the EMT compensation rate.The right candidates must:Be at least 18 years oldHave proof of a HS diploma or GEDHave a Valid Driver’s LicenseHave all required immunizationsSuccessfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test (PAT) What happens after passing the course After successful completion of the course, the employee will be required to pass the EMT National Registry and local area protocols exam. Include the name of the facility and practitioner, official seal, stamp or log of the facility/practitioner and date of the immunizations. Please be sure to make copies of your immunization records.
