Essential Functions and Duties: Perform manual work in preparing surfaces and mixing concrete for concrete pour. Operate small sized construction equipment, small engines, attachments, power tools and hand tools for channel and bayou maintenance. Maintain, clean, and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Assist with the evacuation of other equipment that have become disabled. Remove debris and/or selective vegetation from channel rights of way and de-snag channel bottoms. Clear trees, rocks, and any other large obstacles from the County rights-of-way. Prune limbs for access of equipment. Flag traffic to ingress and egress job sites. Act as a spotter for drivers/operators. Stock and inventory County trucks, trailers and equipment with tools and materials. Wash County vehicles and equipment. Clean shop, fleet parking area, and laydown yard. Assist with constructing forms, placing rebar, pouring, finishing concrete structures, building, or repairing manholes and inlets, and installation of corrugated metal pipe outfalls. Install signs, gates, and bollards. Load and unload equipment and construction materials on/off trailers and rollback trucks. Inspect County equipment and vehicles for safety and compliance before operation. Drive and operate County vehicles and equipment. May perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Hydrologic Operations Technician.
Responsible for performing highly specialized technical tasks necessary to operate and maintain the regional flood warning gage network.
Essential Functions and Duties: Maintain, troubleshoot, service, and repair a variety of sensing, recording, communication, and instrumentation devices for the District and regional flood warning network. Enter, retrieve, edit, and analyze hydrologic data using several specialized databases including CSV and excel formatted worksheets and vendor-specific application programs. Understand ALERT2 protocol and perform updates on Intelligent Network Devices and Control Datalogger with the latest operating system. Program latest CrBasic code and Alert2 configuration files on data loggers to communicate with remote sensing equipment. Troubleshoot DC power and radio equipment including sealed lead acid batteries, solar panels ranging from 5- 50 watts, and radio telemetry efficiency. Build, install, and repair antenna cables using LMR 240 cable with BNC/UHF connections. Troubleshoot radio/antenna/GPS systems using a field decoder, bird-watt meter, and a voltage standing wave ratio meter. Program repeater stations with correct pass listing ensuring messages are transmitted appropriately on all radio frequencies. Understand and decipher repeater payload messages. Verify correct multi-senor and general sensor reporting data arriving from repeater to hydrologic database utilizing application log on field decoder. Maintain accurate field service maintenance records, logs, and overall system documentation. Review hydrologic sensor data records daily to assure accuracy, uniformity, and compliance with accepted standards. Collect and document high water marks, review data for accuracy, and respond to any sensors or gages that fail. Conduct low flow discharge measurements by wading in the channel with tagline and FlowTracker2 equipment adopting USGS methods. Conduct high flow discharge measurements using Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) along the bridge deck adopting USGS methods. Review and post process discharge data using specialized applications including QREV, WinRiverII, and FlowTrackerII software. Load measurements and assist with rating curve adjustments using data management tool and rating editor, WiSKI by Kisters North America. Update and identify channel controls and point of zero flow evaluations. Perform biannual gage site and repeater/base station inspections. Execute diagnostic checks to the power and radio system, increase the accuracy of the water level sensor, and verify accurate rain measurements. Upgrade software for transmitters and water level devices where appropriate. Maintain vegetation near measurement section for accurate data collection. Construct and install gaging stations to include, but not limited to, a NEMA box, data acquisition panel, rain gage sensor, water level sensor, solar panel, GPS antenna, wave antenna, high water indicator pipe, wire weight, and conduit mounted with Unistrut. Perform other duties that may be added as the course and scope of the job directs.

Primary job function is working on various types of railcars, barges and above ground storage tanks. Tasks include cleaning and washing railcars using high pressure equipment, product removal, performing minor maintenance repairs and/or parts replacement. The duties of an aircraft refueler will consist of servicing aircraft and other equipment with aviation and automotive fuels with the use of tanker trucks, hydrant carts or tow carts. Aircraft refulers are required to position the fueling equipment next to the aircraft and service it with fuel following all Airline and Company policy and safety regulations at all times. Reporting to the Crew Leader, the Laborer is responsible for operating gasoline powered equipment and various hand tools used in the daily operation of maintaining clear channels, drainage elements and rights of ways in accordance with the District’s mission to maintain the Infrastructure.
Essential Functions and Duties: Cut and chop weeds and other types of vegetation using gasoline-powered equipment such as weed eaters and non-powered hand tools such as machetes, axes, or tree trimmers. Spray herbicides on selected weeds and grasses using filled backpacks that weigh between 25 and 30lbs. Remove and stack cut vegetation in, along and around channels, drainage elements and rights-of ways using hand rakes or pitchforks. May enter the channel in water up to three feet in depth or from the bank to dislodge and remove drifts and debris (trees, limbs, brush, vines, trash, and refuse) that impede water flow around and under bridges or other areas. May perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

And our dogs and cats are always on the go! We need local drivers to move dogs and cats out of the shelters and take them to the vet, foster homes, or other local transport locations. Want to make a difference in the lives of Houston's homeless animals? Become a Friends For Life Volunteer! We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, and all of them make a true difference to the animals in our care. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and attend volunteer orientation and training. Additional training beyond initial orientation and training may be required for some volunteer opportunities. Community Service hours cannot be completed through the Friends For Life Volunteer Program. Administrative Volunteers Help with the general administrative tasks that help keep the shelter running every day. This includes writing, data entry, filing and much more. Adoption Counselors Support our animals in finding their forever homes by reviewing adoption applications, conducting interviews and working side-by-side with adoptions staff to screen applicants for placement into adoptive homes. Behavior Volunteers Learn about animal behavior and work directly with our behaviorists and trainers to rehabilitate animals at the shelter with behavior challenges. Cat Volunteers Support cats that live at the shelter, or at our Petsmart adoption center, by caring for their daily needs, socializing them, feeding, providing enrichment and maintaining their living spaces. Knowledge of cat behavior is helpful but not required. This opportunity requires a moderate to high level of physical activity. Dog Volunteers Care for dogs that are temporarily boarding at the shelter by walking, providing enrichment, feeding, training, socializing them and maintaining their living spaces.
