Responsibilities
  • Caseload Management:Maintain a caseload of approximately 5-7 students.
  • Educational Therapy Implementation:
    • Use the Educational Therapy Model during weekly counseling sessions, including executive function coaching and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to promote social, emotional, and academic skill development.
  • Student Counseling and Support:
    • Hold weekly individual and/or group sessions for counseling, academic, and social-emotional check-ins, and skill development.
  • Collaboration:
    • Actively collaborate on the development and implementation of students’ Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
    • Review and discuss student issues, profiles, and progress with team members.
  • Communication:
    • Engage with faculty, parents, and providers as needed.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with students’ parents, teachers, and mental health professionals.
  • Academic Monitoring:
    • Conduct regular reviews of students’ academic accounts to identify the need for academic interventions, teacher communication, and/or classroom observation.
  • Administrative Communication:
    • Maintain consistent communication with the Head of School regarding student, parent, and faculty issues.
  • Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and implement curricula for psychoeducation, social skills, academic/counseling support, and other therapeutic groups.
  • Group Leadership:
    • Lead or co-lead Spire Groups, including Know Thyself, Executive Function Workshop, process groups, parent-child groups, and more.
    • Design and implement summer therapy groups and curricula.
  • Prospective Student Inquiries:
    • Conduct initial phone inquiries and summaries for prospective students.
  • Testing and Class Support:
    • Serve as a proctor for testing and physical education classes as needed.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Fulfill other therapeutic and supportive duties as assigned.
  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS):
    • Implement PBIS systems to improve school climate and foster a positive peer culture.
Requirements:
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2+ years of experience working with middle/high school students with social/emotional challenges.
  • Certification:
    • CT Certification required:
      • School Social Worker (#071)
      • School Counselor (#068)
      • School Psychologist

*School Counselor preferred.
