The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a part-time (32 hours/week) behavioral health clinician (LCSW, PhD or PsyD) in Hartford HealthCare’s Tallwood Men’s Health center in Farmington. Tallwood Men’s Health is a dynamic practice comprised of a clinically integrated team of specialties including urology, cardiology, endocrinology, and medical and surgical weight loss, with over 14.000 patient visits seen annually in the Farmington office. The Division of Health Psychology at The Institute of Living is part of the Department of Psychology and employs licensed psychologists and social workers with expertise in evaluating and treating individuals referred from within Hartford Healthcare as well as the surrounding community with a variety of medical conditions.


Job Summary


The Tallwood Men’s Health behavioral health clinician is a very collaborative position, closely connected to the team of interdisciplinary providers, all of whom are aligned in the core mission of improving the health of men with a variety of medical conditions, including sexual dysfunction, cancer, obesity, sleep disorders, and heart disease. The providers at Tallwood Men’s Health recognize the important role of behavioral health in the treatment of these conditions, and the behavioral health clinician is considered a core member of the clinical team. The clinician will craft a strong program to support the behavioral health of this population, understanding the unique needs and challenges that men face in accessing behavioral health care, particularly as it relates to sensitive issues like sexual dysfunction, urological disorders, and depression. The role in outpatient clinic of the Division of Health Psychology is an exciting one for a behavioral health clinician with an interest in helping people with issues that include adjustment to diagnoses, chronic pain, coping with stress, disease management, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

Additional expectations for this role may include identifying community psychiatric resources, educating other providers about psychological aspects of illness and disease presentation and management, and assisting patients in creating or staying connected with community supports.

Opportunities for research and training also exist and are an integral part of the clinician’s role.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Providing behavioral health services to adults, including diagnostic assessment and evaluation of treatment needs of medical patients on site, collaboration and consultation with medical providers, brief and evidence-based treatments for behavioral and mental health issues,
  2. Effective utilization of screening measures and assessment tools,
  3. Data management including tracking symptoms and treatment outcomes,
  4. Participating in program development,
  5. Developing and implementing psychoeducational materials for use in the medical setting,
  6. Participating in team meetings, case management and coordination, outreach and communication with outside providers,
  7. Independent maintenance of treatment records.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD) or Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from an APA-accredited institution

  • If Doctoral level, one year APA-approved internship in Clinical Psychology

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut

  • Training and experience in clinical health psychology, integrated primary care or other medical settings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-directed and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Spanish language proficiency a plus
