I. Summary

Responsible for assessing, supervising and providing the majority of the Mental Health Treatment, at Creative Alternatives, CA. Oversees the mental health and counseling of substance abuse adult patients, referred to at CA, as members. Makes decisions regarding member’s therapy needs; intervenes when on-call and assists in on-site emergencies. Provides emergency consultation, either face to face or virtually.

II. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and oversees the daily activities of personnel engaged in providing counseling or therapeutic services to substance abuse and/or mental health patients, including adults, couples and family supports via individual and group settings.
  1. Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship with member(s).
  1. Ensures that the member receives high quality psychiatric care through clinical service delivery, coordinating team interventions, communicating needs to team leader and psychiatrist.
  1. Participates in the 3 team meetings weekly, called ITM, Interdisciplinary Team Meetings, for collaboration and communication purposes.
  1. Develops an appropriate relationship/alliance with family members &/or other professionals and utilizes these relationships to enhance member progress.
  1. Participates in interviewing staff & Interns to determine the best match for the openings at CA.
  1. Monitors members therapy progress of the Interns and other supervised staff, via therapy activities through supervisory conferences, group observations, chart reviews, direct observation, etc.
  1. Designs treatment approaches for more challenging members, or members having special needs, including developing behavioral plans.
  1. Monthly mandated therapy for Conditionally Released members on CFAP. Documentation and collaboration with CFAP, is expected.
  1. As a Licensed Clinical Supervisor, will provide on-call administrative coverage, approximately 1 week/month, to be a resource to Bachelor’s prepared staff.
  1. Participates in patient enrollment process, for new referrals, and assists in making decisions regarding acceptance of new enrollments into the program.
  1. Actively participates in special recommendations, for members with violent or suicidal tendencies.
  1. Ensures compliance with member treatment and program protocols, as authorized by government regulatory agencies, and Bayview Medical Center policies.
  1. Performs direct member assessments and assists in determining the extent of substance abuse/addiction or level of mental impairment; assists in determining the best course of treatment and follow-up.
  1. Intervenes with those at high-risk of readmission to prevent decompensation, and equips members to become more stable in the community setting.
  1. Most members are trauma survivors and trauma therapeutic techniques are skills that the therapists should be skilled in providing.
  1. Makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline or termination of staff when required.
  1. Sets up staff development for staff trainings to enhance the knowledge level of all CA staff, is an expectation of this role. Keeping a monthly log of all trainings provided at CA, is a BHSB expectation.

III. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or a closely related field and two years of previous experience.

2. Work requires the analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline/field and/or improve, enhance or upgrade complex clinical, financial, data processing, marketing or human resources systems and programs.

4. Work requires communication skills necessary to assign, distribute and follow up on the work of other employees within assigned section/department as well as prepare and actively participate in the performance appraisals of assigned employees. Work requires enforcing unit/section work rules and policies.

5. Must complete the Training Checklist for Managers and Supervisors (described in the Training Catalog under Management Development Curriculum) within twelve months of employment/promotion date.

IV. Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities

1. Work requires occasionally reaching and grasping objects.

2. Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.
