Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

SUMMARY
The maintenance engineering position is responsible for the predictive maintenance program and resolving maintenance related engineering issues. The predictive maintenance program improves system reliability by using diagnostic tools, such as vibration analysis and ultrasonic thickness measurements, to correct potential equipment failure. The maintenance engineer will also be responsible for maintenance related engineering issues involving root cause analysis, equipment performance and replacement, specifications and small projects. The maintenance engineer will also be responsible for the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of corrective and preventive maintenance. Shares back-up responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Represent maintenance on larger capital projects to ensure systems are maintainable and use proven and standard components.
- Provide the necessary engineering support for smaller maintenance projects.
- Ensures installed equipment is performing effectively, efficiently and running as designed and specified.
- Ensure installed equipment and system capacities, materials of construction, accuracy/variance,operating range (temperature, flow, pressure), operating modes and throughput meet manufacturing requirements.
- Ensure use of standard equipment, valves, instruments etc to minimize spare parts inventory and mechanic training.
- Redesign equipment as needed.
2. Plan, schedule, and coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance work orders. For each work order, the maintenance planner will:
- Meet with work order initiator and determine work requirements.
- Analyze requirements and determine work scope and schedule.
- Identify necessary specifications and complete piping, wiring and arrangement sketches.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors to determine necessary parts for equipment repair.
- Identify material, equipment, and labor hours by trade (mechanical, electrical, insulation).
- Complete material purchase orders and order material. Material order should consider schedule requirements.
- Review work scope and materials with assigned mechanic.
- Assist mechanic as necessary through work execution.
- Review completed work and make sure requirements are met. Review actual hours against planned.
3. Establish, manage, and monitor programs for critical equipment analysis and condition monitoring
techniques.
4. Review deficiencies, identify root-cause and implement solutions to equipment failure/malfunctioning noted during corrective maintenance work.
5. Provides technical guidance to Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Recommend types and amount of data to be collected in the CMMS.
- Recommend problem, cause, and action codes for proper tracking of maintenance work.
- Provide technical guidance to the predictive maintenance program. Recommend PM revisions in the CMMS concerning PM activities and frequency.
- Review predictive maintenance program to ensure that proper tools and technologies are being applie
- Maintains and advise on necessary changes to the maintenance material inventory and equipment.
- Make recommendations on the use and disposition of stock and surplus items and rental equipment:
- Work with the planner to review, revise and ensure adequate spares are kept in stock and in the right amount.
- Consults with maintenance craft workers and planner on technical problems. Recommend necessary troubleshooting or equipment redesigns.
- Stay abreast of all new tools and technologies in the maintenance market.
- Develops standards for major equipment overhauls and outages
- Examine the outage and overhauls plans for accuracy and completeness
- Make appropriate recommendations to the planner for adjustments in the plans or schedules.
- Optimizes maintenance strategies and ensure that they all are cost effective.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have either a BS in, Manufacturing, Maintenance, or Chemical Engineering with 2-3 years work experience or 10-15 years work experience as either a senior mechanic or similar maintenance experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing site.
- Must have extensive knowledge on designing, installing, repairing and reconditioning equipment found in a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. Process equipment and systems include dryers, centrifuges, reactors and vessels, milling, heat exchangers, pumps, chillers, valves, piping, electrical, PLC and instrumentation.
- Prefer some knowledge of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and cGMP.
- Must be able to read and understand drawings. This includes electrical single line diagrams, P&ID’s and detail drawings (isometrics, wiring diagrams).
- Must be able to identify, install and implement critical equipment monitoring techniques.
- on failure history and trend analysis.
- Familiarity with facility updates, certifications, PM’s, Visalia, equipment qualifications, and Blue Mountain maintenance system a plus.
