We are seeking an experienced Network Test Engineer to help us evaluate the performance of networks and networked systems, correlate that performance with application operation, and ultimately propose actionable solutions and recommendations for improvement.

As a member of our team, you will be encouraged to apply both disciplined engineering practices and creativity in order to understand and improve the use of voice, video, and data applications as well as the underlying networks and systems. You will work as part of several multidisciplinary teams to provide meaningful insight into the operations of sophisticated and critical systems in support of national security. As a Government Network Test Engineer, you will...

  • Design and lead test and evaluation efforts ensure the function and performance of network components and systems.
  • Lead the preparation, execution, and post-event analysis efforts.
  • Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Interact with technical specialists in other fields as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in information technology or science, computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or another related technical field.
  • Have at least ten years of relevant experience working with DoD network systems.
  • Are proficient in all aspects of testing including test plan development, network instrumentation selection, test execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Are familiar with foundational computer networking technology such as routers, switches, and security appliances
  • Are able to describe operation of key inter-networkingand network security protocols at Layers 2, 3, and 4.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, up to 25%.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Possess a Master's degree or PhD in information technology or science, computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or another related technical field.
  • Have experience with wired and wireless technologies and standards at Layer 1.
  • Have experience with protocols at Layer 5+ and are able to understand how lower layers affect their performance.
  • Have hands-on experience designing and directing complex test events which require coordinated action at multiple locations.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
