Preferred qualifications: experience with head and neck cancer patients.

  • Provides comprehensive clinical speech pathology services to patients.
  • Provides testing, analyses, and evaluation of seriously ill patients or those having complex medical problems.
  • Formulates a treatment plan consistent with the patient's needs.
  • Assures continuity of care through effective decision-making resulting in quality patient care.
  • Delivers effective patient care based on collaborative clinical pathways.
  • Anticipates potential patient crisis through continual evaluation of patient outcomes.
  • Delegates effectively. Identifies the need to develop or revise policies and procedures pertaining to specialized patient populations and/or department and hospital practices.
  • Participates in department orientation of new staff.
  • May serve as mentor for new staff and students.
  • Monitors daily practices for consistency with established standards for patient care.
  • Participates in routine evaluations of quality assurance activities.
  • Assists with supervision of support staff and students.
  • Assists with providing on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.
  • Communicates regularly with members of the patient care team, the patient, family members and others involved with the patient's care.
  • Assists the department in maintaining a clear and accurate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental information flow.
  • Provides patient and family education, instructing and training patients and families regarding pertinent aspects of the patient's care.
  • Assesses and assists staff in assessing complex patient's and problems.
  • Provides direct patient care to complex patients; performs specialized treatments according to the patient's individualized plan of care.
  • Provides the patient with increased knowledge and skill within an identified area of expertise.
  • Plans, develops and implements a results oriented treatment plan responsive to the individualized needs of the patient which includes clear and measurable goals.
  • Modifies the treatment plan according to the patient's response.
  • Collaborates with other members of the patient care team and utilizes community resources to plan for the continued care, support and follow-up of the patient after discharge.
  • Recommends and procures appropriate equipment.
  • Provides consultation and direct assistance to staff and physicians in management of patients.
  • Assists in providing consultation related to clinical management to the professional community and community at large.
  • Responds to requests for professional information or advice and refers more complex matters to appropriate staff.
  • Provides in-service education.
  • Assists the department in mentoring clinical staff; provides skills training within their area of expertise.
  • Participates in committees addressing patient care related matters or other committees as requested by the department.
  • May support and participate in research activities as requested.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current licensure in Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Georgia.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • One year of Speech-Language Pathology experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
