Epic Cardiovascular has an exciting opportunity for an ECMO trained perfusionist or other Advanced Practice Professional!

TheECLS CoordinatorprovidesclinicalandadministrativeguidancetotheECLSDepartment. The management of the ECLS Department includes 24-hour accountability and authority for maintainingaqualityprogramcustomarytoEpic Cardiovascularpolicies.TheECLS Coordinatoractsasaliaison between Epic Cardiovascular Services and the client hospital. A comprehensive understanding of the philosophies and goals of the ECLS Department and Epic Cardiovascular are fundamental for suitable implementation. Evident managerial experience and skills are necessary, with an enthusiastic approachtotheposition.Leadershipqualitiesareimportantbutrecognizingandusingthepotential of ECLS specialists is significant in daily activities. Periodic assessments of personnel to recognize their potential is beneficial for furthering personal and company-wide goals. The assessment process will also identify opportunities for the staff members’ professional growth.

TheECLS Coordinatorwillberesponsibleforthefollowing managerialfunctions:

A.Overseespolicyand procedure(P&P)formation.

B.Overseescompliance,review, andperformance ofannualupdate oftheP&P.

C.ProvidesoversightforDataManagementProgram.

D.Overseescompliancewithmonthly andquarterlyCQIresponsibilities.

E.Overseesthe departmentalmonthlymeeting.

F.EmployeeappraisalsandCompetencyReviews.

G.Generationof reports,memos, budget, and inventoryrequirements.

H.Assuresstable,dailyoperationofdepartmentfunctions.

I.Providesin-servicetrainingtotheclienthospital.

J.Assistsstaffmembersinformationofin-servicetopicsaswellasthedeliveryofthesetopics.

K.Providesclinicaland non-clinicalguidancefor lessexperiencedperfusionists.

L.Forwardsappropriatequestions totheDirector ofOperationsfortheirregion.

M.Whileexecuting his/herdutiesinthesurgical area, he/she willbe under the directionoftheprimarysurgeon.

MAJORDUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES WHEN IN CLINICAL ROLE:

Theclinicalduties ofthe ECLS Coordinatorinclude,butarenotlimitedto:

1.Operatestheextracorporealcircuit,pump,andrelatedequipment.

2.Managestheongoingprocessofhealthcaredeliverytopatientsandfamilies per institutional policies.

3.ParticipatesinpatientroundsandpossiblymakingsuggestionstothePhysicianand ECLS team after assessing patient responses to ECLS therapy.

4.Reviewslaboratoryandbloodgasresultsandtreatswithindefinedprotocolsprescribed by physician in charge.

5.Circuitadjustmentsincludingpumpflow,gasexchange,hemofiltration,anticoagulation therapy, or other to maintain patient within limitations set by ECLS physician.

6.Troubleshoots the ECLS circuit and make replacements of circuit components as indicatedandpotentiallyinthepresenceoftheinstitutionalPerfusionistsandPhysicians.

7.MayassistindatacollectionandresearchactivitiesassociatedwiththeinstitutionorEpic.

8.Attendsongoingclassesofspecific institutionand/orEpic asrelated toECLSservices.

SpecificandancillaryclinicalresponsibilitiesoftheECLS Coordinator:

1.Accuratelyassesspathophysiologicalchanges withinthepatientduringbypass.

2.ManagesECMOflowin relationshipto patientmanagementparameters

3.Performsalltechnicalskillswithefficiency,accuracy,safety,andinaccordancewith institutional and Epic policy and procedures.

4.Operatesallequipmentaccordingtopolicyandprocedure:differentiatepatientvs.patient problems and intervene appropriately.

5.Implementsstandingphysicianorderswithinestablishedguidelines

6.Anticipates,intervenes,andmanagescrisis/emergencysituationsaccording topolicyandprocedure;maintainsprofessionalcomposure.

7.Demonstrateseffective assessmentof theECLScircuit.

8.Performs,manages,andtroubleshootsanticoagulationperinstitutionalprotocol.

9.DemonstratesproperbloodsamplingtechniquesfromtheECLScircuit.

10.Documentsappropriatelyonall ECMOrecordsincludingOnCloudEMR.

11.DemonstratesadministrationofallbloodproductsintotheECLScircuit

12.ManageslaboratoryresultsandperformsappropriateinterventionsasrelatedbyECLStherapy.

13.Assessesclinicalstatusofthepatient,includingvitalsignsanddiscusspossibleintervention.

14.Providesfeedbackfor improvedpatient outcomesto othercareproviders

15.Assimilatesinformationandthenprovidesdocumentationoftheinterventionsthatprovide the chosen integrated plan of care.

16.Anticipatesandcommunicatespatientneedsthatwillrequireinterventionbyother members of the care team.

17.Anticipateslearningneedsforpatients/families/andstaff.

18.Assistsothersin defininglearningoutcomes andappropriateinterventions.

19.Usesinnovationinindividualizingpatient/familyteachingtotheindividualpatient/familyneeds.

20.Participatesduringpatientmanagementdiscussionsandsuggestsclinicalmanagement options during discussions.

21.Maintainsqualificationlicensureasperthoselicensurerequirements.

22.MaintainscommunicationwithininstitutionalandEpicstandardsandpoliciesfor delivery of ECLS care.

23.MaintainscompetenciesincurrenttopicsofECLSthroughinstitutionaljournals,Internet, and networking with care providers of similar nature.

24.Punctuality,professionalrespectforallotherteammembers,andprofessionalbehavior must be maintained at all times.

Personaldemands on theECLS Coordinatorinclude:

1.Participatein“on-call”scheduling,whichisprovided24hoursaday,7daysaweek,365 days a year.

2.Mustwearapagerorcellphoneduring“on-call”timesandbeavailabletorespond within the designated call response time of the hospital.

3.Must be in good physicalcondition.

4.Mustbe ableto endurelong hours,both mentallyandphysically

5.Physicalrequirementsincludestandingforlongperiodsoftime,lifting,stooping,sitting, stretching, and other bodily demands for extended intervals.

6.Exposuretonoxious gasesand bodily fluidswithrisk ofinfections anddiseases.

7.Remaincurrent on presentECLStechnologyprocedures,techniques,andliterature.

8.Establishandmaintainaprofessionaldemeanor.

9.Re-enforcethe integrityof Epic Cardiovascular Staffing.

10.Whendirected,serveinsupportivecapacityforallclinicalaccountsrelative tovacation relief, sick leave, and temporary staffing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A.Certified Clinical Perfusionist, RegisteredNurseorRegisteredRespiratoryTherapistlicensedin thestateofemployment.

B.Minimumoftwo (2)yearsintensivecareorrelatedexperience.

C.Satisfactorycompletion of anECLS TrainingCourse.

D.Satisfactorycompletionof theEpic Cardiovascular clinicalassessmentexamination.

E.Aminimumof60 hoursof ClinicalPumptime.

F.FullunderstandingofcircuitcomponentsutilizedfortheserviceofaparticularECLScenter.

G.The abilitytoremaincalmunderpressure andamechanicalinclinationispreferred.

H. Candidate must relocate to Washington, DC, or the surrounding area

Estimated Compensation Range

$150,000-$200,000+ per year based on skills, experience and possible bonus opportunities
