Summary

The Health System Medication Access Coordinator (Pharmacy Tech) within the Health System plays a vital role in facilitating patients' access to various financial resources for medications. This responsibility involves evaluating the financial circumstances of uninsured or under-insured patients, ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance, and upholding patient confidentiality and dignity. The coordinator determines eligibility for medication assistance or any available financial aid, collaborating closely with the Clinical Team to optimize the organization's efforts in mitigating unnecessary financial losses linked to high-cost medications. In addition, the coordinator acts as a patient advocate in resolving issues related to medication payment and coverage.

To assess potential qualification for Medication Assistance Programs and Foundations, the coordinator conducts thorough patient interviews, reviewing health and prescription insurance, financial status, and required documentation. Actively seeking clinical information from patient charts is a key aspect of the coordinator's responsibilities. Effective communication with representatives of assistance programs, as well as with patients, physicians, pharmacists, and other relevant stakeholders, is crucial for both the maintenance of patients in existing medication assistance programs and the initiation of new programs. This holistic and thorough approach significantly contributes to enhanced access to medications for patients, resulting in an overall increase in patient satisfaction due to improved health outcomes.

The coordinator also conducts prior authorizations as needed, adhering to insurance requirements. They diligently determine insurance plan benefits forbrand namemedications, ensuring that patients receive the maximum coverage available. Additionally, the coordinator actively utilizes manufacturer's patient assistance programs for brand name and specialty medications, providing crucial support to eligible patients and further optimizing access to essential medications.
