POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for providing high quality, cost-effective, and evidence based medical care to the hospitalized patients as the attending or consulting physician. The hospitalists are responsible for coordinating care for patients at discharge, and facilitating hand-offs to outpatient physicians. Basic administrative duties may be required from time to time. Participation in hospital committees and leadership is encouraged.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Formal Education / Training:
- Current licensure by the State of Tennessee as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician.
- Current DEA number.
- Able to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal interactions, and apply sound administrative principles.
- Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. The practitioner must be board certified within 5 years of completion of residency or fellowship training.
- Current ACLS certification.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS - Provides information, education, and support to patient and the patient's family members. Includes the patient and their family in care planning.
- Provides information, education, and support to nurses and other staff. Includes nurses and other staff in care planning.
- Communicates and works cooperatively with peers, consultants, and ER staff.
- Facilitates appropriate and timely admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, hospital conferences, home study, and use of resources and consultants.
- Participates effectively in multidisciplinary rounds by communicating diagnosis, stating clear goals, working cooperatively, being open to feedback, and being efficient.
- Participates in building positive culture through honest, constructive, friendly, and team-minded interactions.
- Chart documentation is accurate, clear, concise, and conforms to the program's adopted system of note-writing.
- Sign-out communications and hand-offs are up-to-date, clear, concise, and appropriately targeted.
- Presents professionally, including appearance and demeanor.
- Reports to work on time and assures patient care is appropriately triaged, managed, or assigned prior to leaving.
- Attends to assignments, as needed, to reduce cost, maintain safety, or improve efficiency.
